The IT movie is far longer than a horror film should be – DigitalSpy.com

It's already been announced that the new adaptation of Stephen King's IT has been divided into two parts. But now the BBFC has revealed the runtime of part one and it's bloody long. For a horror movie, at least.

The BBFC has rated the movie 15 for "strong horror, violence, language" and listed it with a runtime of 135 minutes. That's 2 hours and 15 mins pretty lengthy for a horror movie, most of which tend to be in and out in 90 minutes.

Given this is only part one, we can be confident that this adap will be longer than the two-part TV miniseries starring Tim Curry as Pennywise, which came out in 1990 and ran at 192 mins in total.

Thing is, that might be a good thing. For a start, the novel the film is based on is massive, at 1,166 pages, featuring multiple characters and the town of Derry, Maine, which has a personality of its own.

Unlike the novel, which skips between the kids who call themselves The Losers' Club and 27 years later when they reunite as adults, the first part of IT will just focus on the youngsters.

The gang includes Jaeden Lieberher from Midnight Special and Finn Wolfhard from Stranger Things, while Pennywise the Dancing Clown will be played by Bill Skarsgrd, who you can also catch in Atomic Blonde.

And it sounds like one particularly disturbing scene from the book WON'T be included.

Since the BBFC description doesn't mention any sexual content, it sounds like the rather bizarre group sex scene between the kids won't be included. Now that would be too damn scary.
