Movie notes: ‘Blade Runner’ returns to theaters for one night | GO … – Omaha World-Herald

Blade Runner will celebrate its 35th anniversary (and its upcoming sequel) with a one-night screening in Omaha.

Ridley Scotts 1982 film will screen in a 4K restoration of its Final Cut version at 7:30 p.m. Aug. 31 at Alamo Drafthouse Omaha.

The rain-drenched sci-fi neo-noir, which remains one of the most influential movies of the modern era, stars Harrison Ford as Rick Deckard, a Blade Runner (one who kills replicants) but also miiiiggght be an artificial intelligence himself(?).

Blade Runner 2049 (in theaters Oct. 6) will pick up 30 years after the original. Ford will return to play Deckard, and Ryan Gosling will star as the Blade Runner tracking him.

Aksarben to play Austin Found

Aksarben Cinema will host a free screening of the film Austin Found tonight.

A pre-party will kick off at 7 p.m., followed by the 8 p.m. showtime. Seating will be available on a first-come, first-served basis. After the movie, Dudleys Pizza & Tavern next door will be hosting a post-party.

Austin Found which stars Linda Cardellini, Skeet Ulrich, Kristen Schaal, Jaime Pressly and Craig Robinson is a comedy about a woman who hatches a plan to turn her family into instant celebrities.

Coming up at Alamo

Alamo has a few great movies on the calendar.

At 10 p.m. Saturday, Alamo will play Eastern Promises, David Cronenberg and Viggo Mortensens brutal Russian mob thriller that The World-Heralds Mikel Severe deemed the best movie ever made to feature two naked men fighting.

At 7 p.m. Monday, Alamo will play Brick, Rian Johnsons 2005 high school noir in which Joseph Gordon-Levitts hardboiled detective tries to figure out who killed his ex-girlfriend.

At 7 p.m. Tuesday, Alamo will play the greatest zombie movie of all time, George A. Romeros 1978 Dawn of the Dead, an ingenious social satire that conflated American consumerism with the mindless consumption of human flesh. Romero died of lung cancer last month. Alamo will donate proceeds from the screening to the Fred & Pamela Buffett Cancer Center.

And at 7 p.m. Aug. 31, Alamo will play Ghost World as part of its Novel Pictures series.

The monthly series a partnership with Omaha Public Library picks a movie based on a book. Following the screening, representatives with Alamo and the library prompt a discussion with patrons about the similarities and differences between the book and movie.

Ghost World is Terry Zwigoffs 2001 adaptation of Daniel Clowes classic comic. It stars Thora Birch, Scarlett Johansson and Steve Buscemi as a few misfits trying to figure out what to do with their lives.
