Downton Abbey’s Matthew Goode to play a vampire in TV adaptation of A Discovery of Witches – Radio Times

Matthew Goode of Downton Abbey fame will play a vampire in a new Sky adaptation of A Discovery of Witches.

Based on Deborah Harknesss best-selling supernatural romance novel, the series will star Goode as Matthew Clairmont an enigmatic geneticist who is secretly a vampire and Hacksaw Ridges Teresa Palmer as Diana Bishop, an Oxford alchemical history professor who also happens to be a witch.

Sky pegged the series as a contemporary love story set in a world where a handful of witches, vampires and daemons live and work unseen amongst humans, hiding in plain sight.

When Diana discovers a manuscript in Oxfords Bodleian Library, she is thrown into the path of Matthew who is hiding his dark family secret.

As Diana and Matthew embark on a journey to understand the secrets of an ancient manuscript and as their relationship develops and their heritage comes in to play, events threaten to unravel the fragile peace that has long existed between witches, vampires, daemons and humans.

Bad Wolf Productions headed up by formerDoctor Whoproducers Jane Tranter and Julie Gardner are on board, and the series is being adapted by Mr Selfridges Kate Brooke.

A Discovery of Witches will begin shooting in September.
