‘Churuli’ Trailer: ‘Jallikattu’ Director Is Here With Another Atmospheric Horror Film – Mashable India

Sometime last year when Lijo Jose Pellissery's Jallikattu arrived, I sat down to watch it with let's say a beverage that takes your enjoyment level of anything a few notches higher. The only reason I considered giving it a watch because it was highly recommended by some YouTubers and some of my friends. I wasn't very hyped because what's there to excited about a rogue bull? But after watchi-- no, experiencing it, my jaw was left on the floor. So, I am guilty of being very excited for Lijo's next i.e. Churuli.

The meaning of churuli is a helix or a spiral, which is one of first things that we see in the trailer. That is accompanied by a voice-over telling the story of a Brahmin who got lost in a forest and was tricked by a phantom. The beautifully shot visuals are very cryptic as it tries its very best to reveal nothing about the movie. From what I could decipher, there are some villagers involved who go into a forest and there something happens after which they go into a downward, you guessed it, spiral.

Pellissery's movies are a little offbeat. So, it's better if you do a rundown of his filmography which consists of Jallikattu of course, Ee. Ma. Yau, Angamaly Diaries, Amen, and City of God before watching Churuli. When will this atmospheric horror film that was apparently shot in 19 days be available though? Well, the verdict is still out on that. According to the Indian Express, is currently at odds with the primary film bodies of the Malayalam film industry and isn't agreeing with the restriction they're imposing. He might even end up releasing the movie on a streaming platform.
