Salina-area author of vampire fiction to hold book signing – Salina Journal

A Salina author of a series of vampire books is holding a book signing Saturday.

Norma Linenberger will be signing books from 2 to 5 p.m. Saturday at Ad Astra Books and Coffee House, 141 N. Santa Fe Ave.

From retired to writer

Linenberger used to be a hairdresser, working in a Salina beauty shop for over 20 years before retiring. Because of this, she said, her career as an author began later than most.

"I was in my later 60s when I started writing," Linenberger said. "I know that's kind of late."

Her writing experiences didn't begin late in life, though, as some of it goes back to when she was growing up in school.

"I was good at compositions," Linenberger said. "You know those require good writing."

A popular subject

Since publishing her first book, "The Final Floor," in 2007, Linenberger has gone on to write five more of what is called the Blood Sucking series. She began writing about vampires as the genre was becoming popular.

"It seemed to me like young students liked to read it," Linenberger said.

She said the genre comes fairly easy for her as well.

"It's easy to describe all the scary things in words," Linenberger said. "(Rather) than real romantic words and the mushy stuff like that, it's real descriptive."

Linenberger starts writing her books by hand, thinking out what she wants to have come out on the page before repeating the process by typing out what she's written. She even used computers at the Salina Public Library to help with her most recent work.

"I typed the last four there," Linenberger said. "It's nice to work at the library. (There's) no disturbances."

Other works

In addition to the her vampire series, Linenberger has also written a book of poetry.

"It's all different kinds of poems," Linenberger said. "Religious poems, (poems) about my grandchildren, some prayers."

She also has poems about past presidents.

"Things about Abraham Lincoln's time," Linenberger said. "It incorporates George Bush and (Bill) Clinton."

She also wrote a book about her pilgrimage to Medjugorje, a village in the former Yugoslavia where visions of the Virgin Mary were seen by children in the 1980s.

Linenberger is already working on her next work of fiction, although it won't be a vampire story this time.

"The newest one now is about a stalker," she said. "He follows after a woman on a plane."

All of Linenberger's books are available at the Salina Public Library.
