Buffy the Vampire Slayer at 25: Where Is the Cast Now? – Parade

Happy anniversary, Buffy Summers! No, not that Buffy Summers.

In the summer of 1992 five years before Sarah Michelle Gellar drove a stake into trite teen TV movie audiences met the original Buffy the Vampire Slayer. Starring Kristy Swanson in the title role, the dopey horror-comedy centered on a ditzy L.A. cheerleader who only wanted to graduate, go to Europe, marry Christian Slater and die. Then, like, oh my god! Buffy learns shes been chosen to fight the undead. A 25-year-old fledging screenwriter named Joss Whedon crafted the script, but he was so disgusted seeing his angsty material be dumbed down that he walked off the set.

Buffy the Vampire Slayer was a critical dud and flopped at the box office, grossing only $16 million. It was destined to collect dust in the back corner of a Blockbuster Video. That is, until Whedon took the DNA of his premise and adapted it for a new TV network called the WB. You know what happened next.

But were not here to wax about the deep, emotionally complex Buffy. Its time to shine a light on the movie, which featured an eclectic cast of well-knowns and a future two-time Oscar winner. Lets check in on the Scooby Gangs predecessors.
