The Vampire Diariesis a supernatural teen drama that ended in 2017 after airing a total of eight seasons. The series follows the life of Elena Gilbert, a high school student living in Mystic Falls who recently lost both her parents in a car accident. When she meets a new student at her school, her life is changed forever and she finds herself thrust into the middle of the intense world of vampires, werewolves, and other supernatural creatures.

Although the series ended in 2017 and definitely wrapped up a lot of the major storylines, there are quite a few questions that many viewers are still wishing that we had gotten answers to. Although the two spin-offs that have come from the series,The OriginalsandLegacies, have definitely helped to extend the storylines of some of our favorite characters, that doesn't help with the unanswered questions from the original series.
To see 10 unanswered questions we still have aboutThe Vampire Diaries, keep reading!
In the early episodes of the series, Damon was able to turn himself into a crow and could seemingly control the fog. It definitely added an interesting supernatural element to the series and made Damon incredibly intriguing as a character, but those powers basically disappeared after the early parts of the series. There are a lot of things that were a big deal in the early episodes, like Damon's crow powers or Elena and Stefan's diaries, and it's likely that they were just cut so that the show could focus on more important storylines. But, the fact that they were so important in the first episodes of the show only to disappear is definitely frustrating!
Damon's powers disappeared and left us all wondering why he no longer went into crow-mode or controlled the fog, but that's not the only frustrating question that we have about those abilities.
Although we were introduced to a ton of different supernatural characters throughout the course of the series, many of whom had their own special powers and abilities, there wereno other characters that had the same kind of powers as Damon. We saw Damon's origin story and the way he was turned from a human to a vampire, so we would have seen if there was something special about him that gave him this ability, but it didn't seem like that was the case either. So, why did no one else have these powers?
As anyone who watchedThe Vampire Diaries will know, every vampire has to come from somewhere. Sire Lines are the line of vampires that have turned one another and every single vampire can be traced back through their Sire Line to one of the members of the Mikaelson family, the Original Vampires. This family was the first group of humans to be cursed with being turned into vampires and are the oldest supernatural creatures in the world... Or are they?

Later on in the series, we were introduced to Silas, Amara, andQetsiyah. These ancient beings are two doppelgngers and a witch and were known as the very first immortals, predating the Mikaelson family bycenturies.
Throughout the series, we're told that the older a supernatural creature is, the more powerful and strong they are. But, when Silas, the very first immortal, comes to Mystic Falls to start causing trouble, he's really not that difficult to defeat. Considering the fact that he's thousands and thousands of years old, it seems like it should have been a lot more of a problem to get rid of him.
So, does ageactually matter inThe Vampire Diaries? Is this another myth that was perpetuated through the world of supernatural creatures, only to not actually be true like the curse that Klaus told stories about? Unfortunately, it doesn't seem like we'll ever know since the oldest supernatural creature in the franchise has long since been defeated.
It's shown throughout the series that Bonnie is an incredibly powerful witch. She discovers her powers fairly early on and is always helping the other residents of Mystic Falls out of their sticky supernatural situations and it seems like there's no spell she can't do.
But, whenever they turn to Bonnie for help, she initially doubts herself before she manages to flawlessly pull the plan off. We get it, being a witch would be stressful and being turned to in order to do a variety of spells in order to save peoples' lives would be hard. But considering the fact that she always manages to get the job done without much of a struggle, why does Bonniealways insist that a spell someone asks her to do is going to be above her skill level?
Bonnie had a pretty complicated familial relationship in the series, but the main thing that viewers knew from fairly early on was the fact that she came from a long line of powerful witches that had been in Mystic Falls for a long time.

At one point in the series, Bonnie had to face her family baggage and track down her mother. In order to do this, Bonnie started looking up every single Abby Bennett in the area that she could find, which would make sense for a mere mortal to do if they wanted to find someone. Butwhy was this the one time that Bonnie didn't just think to use a locator spell?!
Vervain is a vampire's main weakness inThe Vampire Diaries outside of the sun. This herb is one that vampires can't touch or ingest without getting injured unless they've spent a long time building up a tolerance to it, which it doesn't seem like too many vampires in the series do since it's always a huge deal when one of them reveals that they've been working on their Vervain tolerance level.
Because Vervain is the one thing that can really help protect humans against vampires, the Town Council worked pretty hard to control the growth, sales, and use of Vervain in Mystic Falls. But, did theyreally control it that much? It seemed like just about everyone in the town of Mystic Falls was able to get their hands on Vervain at some point, so it didn't seem nearly as heavily monitored as the show claimed it was.
Jenna got the short end of the stick a lot throughout the course of the series. She had so many terrible things happen to her when she was just trying to take care of her niece and nephew after they lost their parents and it wasso not fair.

And after her death, the unfair treatment for Jenna continued. Despite the fact that she had been turned into a vampire prior to her death, for some reason Jenna wasnever on "the other side" with the other supernatural creatures that had died.
Just like in other works of vampire fiction, the vampires inTVD consume blood. This is shown at various points in the series and having a vampire drink from a human can be a huge problem for many of the mortals in the series. But, there are also times when having a vampire feed on them means nothing and the person just keeps on going with their life as though nothing happened. How much blood is too much for a vampire to take from a person? Throughout there series, there really doesn't seem to be a consistent answer.
The tattoos that the vampire hunters that formed The Five had were allegedly a map to the cure for vampirism. The Salvatores followed the map to an island, thinking they would find the cure there and instead... They found and released Silas. As it turned out, the tattoos didn't lead to the cure at all and the tattoos were never mentioned again, probably because everyone was so focused on Silas, but it's still strange since they were such a huge deal before.
