Horror movie filmed in KC area premieres Thursday – KMBC Kansas City

A movie filmed in the Kansas City area is about to hit the big screen. The horror film "I Am Lisa" premieres Thursday at the Boulevard Drive-In Theatre.The movie was filmed with a mostly local cast and crew. At a time when there's not much new being released, the director said he is anxious to get it before an audience. "It's a female-driven, revenge, werewolf movie and everyone kind of perks up because it's a combination of genres that they haven't heard of before," said director Patrick Rea.Lead actress Kristen Vaganos said she was excited to be cast in such a strong role."I'm a pretty small person, so I don't often get to play someone strong and aggressive and even violent, but in a revengeful way and not just for the sake of it," she said.Keep an eye out for familiar locations in the film. Some of the wooded scenes were shot in Kearney, Lathrop and Parkville. But most of the horror came to life in Kansas City."We actually filmed in an abandoned police station off of Van Brunt. For a couple days, we filmed in various places. We filmed in a bookstore in North Kansas City," Rea said."I Am Lisa" was supposed to be making its debut at film festivals that were canceled because of the pandemic. But maybe a drive-in theater is just the place for it."Everybody feeling kind of isolated, like someone could creep up on them at any moment in their car. I'm excited. I think it will be fun," Vaganos said.
