Vampire Diaries has been one of the most loved show and it finally concluded the show in 2016 after airing for 2 long seasons, fans were not happy about this choice for sure but all the cast and crew were relieved as the show has been going on for quite a while and it needed to be set to rest.
Lets speak about of the rumors surfacing Vampire Diaries net about a season 9!

To be very honest with our readers we do not think its likely for Vampire Diaries to go through with a season 9, many fans on the internet are raving about how the series will be back in 2021 on CW with their season 9 but those are only rumored so do not fall in their trap.
Diaries continuing will not be likely although Julie Plec, the founder of Vampire Diaries, has confirmed that she is not working on any spin-off job associated with Vampire Diaries. However, a spinoff series can be a chance.
Ian Somerhalder, who plays Damon Salvatore when asked about being part of Vampire Diaries season 9 stated that even if the series moves forward with a season 9, he would not like to be a part of it without Ian we dont see a point into the show.
If in future we each get a season 9 of Vampire Diaries afterward we anticipate these cast members to return!
