Sometimes around Halloween you want to watch something spookily appropriate and you end up scrolling through streaming services for ages.
This year we've done the work for you and picked some really good spine-tinglers for you to watch.

Not only that we've split them into family-friendly spooky choices, mid-level shiver-fests that wouldn't be suitable for really little witches and werewolves and then there's the seriously over-18s scary section which, to be honest, even we struggle with.
So get your popcorn and chocolate pumpkins ready, as well as a good, old cushion to hide behind and see if any of these choices tickle your fancy.
Hocus Pocus
The classic 1990s spooky family film everyone can watch. Bette Midler, Sarah Jessica Parker and Kathy Najimy are the Sanderson sisters who are brought back to life to wreak havoc on the town of Salem.
There's also a talking cat, excellent singing scene and bullies who get their comeuppance - what's not to love?
How to watch : Disney+
Halloweentown
Scree icon Debbie Reynolds stars as witchy grandmother, Aggie, who wants to train her granddaughter in the ways of witchcraft.
There are four of these young teen, wholesome middle America Halloweentown movies so if you love Halloween then they are for you.
How to watch : Disney+
The Addams Family
The 1991 remake of the classic teatime series is a lot of fun and weirdness.
Raul Julia, Anjelica Huston and Christina Ricci star in the deadpan comedy and the sequel, The Addams Family Values, is also availble to stream straight after, if you like.
How to watch: Netflix
Muppets Haunted Mansion
This is a brand new Muppet adventure made for 2021, and is out on October 8.
The Great Gonzo, world famous daredevil artiste, has done it all, seen it all, and survived it all. But on Halloween night, the fearless Gonzo takes on the greatest challenge of his life by spending one very daring night in the most grim grinning place on Earth The Haunted Mansion.
How to watch: Disney+
Coraline
In this slightly creepy, animation Dakota Fanning plays a young girl who scrambles through a secret door in her new home and discovers an alternate version of her dull routine. On the surface, this parallel reality is eerily similar to her real life - only much better. But her adventure takes a malevolent turn and she runs the risk of being trapped in this false world forever.
How to watch: NowTV
Coco
This gorgeous Pixar animation follows a young wannbe singer who stumbles upon the Land of the Dead and discovers the legacy of his great-grandfather who was a famous singer.
How to watch : Disney+
The Corpse Bride
Tim Burton's funny and creepy horror tells the chilling tale of Victor who accidentally marries a corpse bride instead of fianc Victoria.
Will he stay in the land of the dead or return to save Victoria?
How to watch: Amazon Prime
Ghostbusters
A classic spooky comedy which, along with the sequel, never gets tired on the umpteenth rewatch.
Bill Murray, Dan Akroyd, Harold Ramis and Ernie Hudson are the original spook hunters trying to keep New York clear of ghouls.
The 2016 update is also on Netflix and all three are worth a watch before the new movie, Afterlife, is released in November.
How to watch : Netflix
Beetlejuice
Weird and wonderful spooks and ghouls are led by Michael Keaton's offbeat demon in this '80s classic where Alec Baldwin, Geena Davies and Winona Ryder lead the human cast and try to get rid of both unpleasant homeowners and ghoulish intruders.
Also has a classic music-number scene which you'll never forget.
How to watch : NowTV
Fear Street Trilogy
These Netflix Orginal films find residents in the town of Shadyside plagued by a menacing spirit that has cast a murderous shadow over the place for centuries.
A group of teens, of course, band together to fight the evil force in action which takes place over three film-length installments, 1994, 1978 and 1666.
How to watch: Netflix
The Babysitter
A black comedy which sees kid Cole stay up past his bedtime and discovers that his hot babysitter is part of a satanic cult that will stop at nothing to keep him quiet.
How to watch : Netflix
Scream
The brilliant Wes Craven, meta-before-we-knew-what-meta-was, slasher flick released in 1997 breathed a whole new life into its particular type of horror and spawned several (inferior) sequels and a TV series. There's even a new film out next year bringing back the originals - Neve Campbell, Courtney Cox and David Arquette.
What's your favourite scary movie?
How to watch: Amazon Prime
Hereditary
Creepy. As.
After the death of her mother, artist Annie and her family uncover their terrifying legacy and grapple with malevolent forces beyond their control.
We can't think about it too much to be honest...
How to watch: Netflix
Halloween series
Films one, two, four and five from the original series of slasher flicks about the insane killer, Michael Myers, and the series is never bettered than in the debut John Carpenter flick.
Starring Jamie Lee Curtis - the iconic 'Final Girl' of modern horror - the creepy build, the music, the tense and scary payoff as the killer raids the neighbourhood, makes Halloween a brilliant film.
Halloween 3: Season of the Witch, which weirdly has nothing to do with any of the other films can actually be found on Amazon Prime.
Where to watch: 1, 2, 4 and five are on Netflix, all the originals, reboots, and 2019's version of Halloween are on Amazon
Apostle
Welsh-made horror Apostle stars Michael Sheen as an evil, cult leader on an island which has way too many dark, terrifying secrets.
Dan Stevens stars as Thomas Richardson who learns that his sister is being held for ransom by a religious cult. Determined to get her back at any cost, Thomas travels to the idyllic island where the cult live to infiltrate them. Which he might regret.
How to watch: Netflix
Midsommar
This folk horror stars Florence Pugh and Will Poulter as a couple who visit a Scandanavian commune to help heal their flailing relationship.
But, once there they are in the clutches of a Pagan cult.
How to watch : Netflix or Amazon
TheShining
A true classic horror from the mind of Stephen King, who plunges us into the mind of Jack Nicholson's Johnny, a writer who takes on a remote hotel with his family, only to be plunged into murderous madness by the isolated building.
How to watch: Amazon or NowTV
American Werewolf in London
Another classic, this time about a werewolf, you get some zombies thrown in for good measure, too.
John Landis' 1981 horror-comedy had (for the time) eye-popping special effects and a great soundtrack, as well as some jump scares, of course.
How to watch: NowTV
Candyman
This 1992 original has recently been remade, but the first incarnation of this demonic killer is scary enough.
Played by Tony Todd, the hook-handed character is unwittingly summoned to reality by a sceptic researching the myth.
How to watch: NowTV
His House
This haunted house horror mixes with gritty realism at the home of two South Sudan asylum seekers who escape their war-torn country only to face prejudice and a sinister terrifying entity which haunts them.
How to watch: Netflix
Alien Series
The first two movies in the original quartet of films with Sigourney Weaver are worth watching time and time again.
Both so different, but no less exhilarating and scary, Alien sees the team on the Nostromo picked off by an alien intruder in a film filled with classic jump scares, while the second, Aliens is an all-guns-blazing, Marines adventure in space.
How to watch : Amazon Prime
A Nightmare on Elm Street
We had to include Freddy! The icon of trashy, '80s horror was truly terrifying, still now, too - even though it's mixed with bits that make you guffaw into that cushion you're hiding behind.
