Renewed Or Cancelled?

The Walking Dead has been a hallmark of AMCs programming since the early 2000s. The show has spawned numerous spin-offs and movie ideas, along with a loyal following hanging on the gangs every adventure. It seems theres no end to this hugely successful zombie franchise.

If youve been following this one over the years, you may be wondering if this one has been renewed or cancelled. Well, wonder no more! Heres what we know about a renewal:

The Walking Dead Season 11 is the final chapter in the shows long run and adapts material from issues 175-193 of the comics. Here, we focus on the groups encounter with the Commonwealth, a large network of communities that has advanced equipment with over 50,000 survivors living in different settlements.

We also get confrontations with the Reapers, a mysterious faction of hostile survivors that attacked and took Meridian, the former home of Maggie and her new people, the Wardens.

At the time of writing, The Walking Dead has not been renewed for season 12. The announcement of this actually came about before the show aired, with AMC billing this as the final season. Now, it could be that the show pulls an Attack on Titan and claims its the final season and then suddenly throws extra parts out there with a To Be Continued but that seems highly unlikely.

However, there are numerous spin-offs in the works, including a standalone Daryl series, a separate Maggie and Negan drama, and finally a Michonne and Rick AMC show. So although the franchise starter, The Walking Dead, is ending, the shows roots are very much spreading in different directions.

In the meantime though, we can definitively confirm that The Walking Dead will not be returning for season 12.

As detailed above, season 12 is not happening as AMC have already announced that this one has been cancelled. However, expect next year (2023) to be full of Walking Dead spin-offs, as detailed above.

Although the ending to the show is different to the comics, The Walking Deads finale on November 20th 2022 marks the final chapter of this illustrious series.

On Sunday's episode of "The Walking Dead," Governor Pamela Milton (Laila Robins) tells her right-hand man Lance Hornsby that his life at the Commonwealth is over. Milton recently learned that Lance, power-hungry, and out to prove himself, was going rogue and abusing his power as second-in-command, killing others without her knowledge.

Shocked and in disbelief, Lance warns Pamela that she still needs him: "If something happens to me, certain alliances the Commonwealth has, certain stabilizing factors, are likely to become a problem."

Milton may believe Hornsby is bluffing in order to weasel his way out of getting stripped of his role in the Commonwealth, but she may be very, very wrong.

If you've been watching "TWD" closely, that single line of dialogue should've made your ears perk.

We've seen one group that Lance has an alliance with, but it's possible there's a more important alliance Hornsby formed that hasn't been seen on screen yet. For some time, "TWD" has been dropping potential clues that the Commonwealth has ties to another nameless community.

And it has us wondering: Does Lance Hornsby have some sort of secret arrangement with the Civic Republic Military? In case you don't recall, they're the group of 200,000 people who took Rick and that was at the center of the spin-off series "TWD: World Beyond."

We hope so.

It would be a great way for the series' final episodes to wrap up some loose ends and tie the flagship to some of its spin-offs.

Let's walk through the clues that have us convinced we could see a connection between Lance and the CRM on the show's final episodes.

The final episodes of "TWD" have the opportunity to link together disappearances at the Commonwealth with a few other mysterious ones we've seen over the years on the apocalyptic drama.

We know that Sebastian was inadvertently responsible for the deaths of some people at the Commonwealth, but, as a reminder, there was a pretty long list of missing people that Kelly and her sister Connie acquired on season 11, episode 11.

A few episodes later, on season 11, episode 17, Connie briefly mentioned to Kelly that there are still a lot of missing people whose whereabouts they don't know about. We're hoping that's not a random plot that will be dropped.

Where could they be?

If they're not dead, one thought is that they could've been traded to another community either for supplies or in exchange for an alliance or to be left alone.

If that sounds out of the blue, it's not.

"TWD" has previously brought up the idea of people going missing only to later reveal on or off screen that they wound up in the care of the Civic Republic Military.

Seasons earlier, showrunner Angela Kang told Insider that Jadis traded Heath to the CRM in exchange for supplies.

On season 11, episode 13, we briefly learned that Lance was setting some supplies aside for something, possibly a group. He revealed that he took some of the resources to rebuild Alexandria and directed them toward a secret project, referred to as "that other thing."

Unfortunately, because of Daryl's former girlfriend Leah, those supplies were intercepted and never found their way to their original destination. The hiccup resulted in Lance's rogue Commonwealth militia wrongfully accusing Annie's group of stealing the supplies and murdering a good number of them.

Before getting locked up, Lance became so preoccupied with Daryl's extended group that he never circled back to the fact that his supplies didn't go to "that other thing." Is someone going to come looking for them?

It's becoming increasingly unbelievable that the CRM's massive group of 200,000 wouldn't be aware of a group the size of the Commonwealth's 50,000 in Ohio.

From "TWD: World Beyond," we know that the main three CRM sites were located in and around Ithaca, New York, Portland, Oregon, and Omaha, Nebraska. The latter site was destroyed.

Additionally, season one, episode seven of "World Beyond" revealed that the Civic Republic Military had secret oil reserves hidden throughout the US so they could refuel their helicopters.

Where are these reserves?

Two are in Ohio while others are located in Pennsylvania, Indiana, Illinois, West Virginia, Kentucky, and North Virginia, near what appears to be Washington, DC.

The Commonwealth is situated in an unknown spot in Ohio. Additionally, Daryl and his crew's main home is located in Alexandria, Virginia.

Are we supposed to believe the CRM and the Commonwealth haven't crossed paths while Lance has been out forging alliances?

Even if Lance doesn't have some sort of alliance with the CRM that could go sideways, it's a little impossible to believe that the CRM's helicopters haven't caught sight of the Commonwealth or its militia.

And, if by some miracle, the Commonwealth has stayed off their radar, there's another more obvious Civic Republic Military connection to "TWD" who should know about the Commonwealth by now: Jadis (Pollyanna McIntosh).

It would be short-sighted of Jadis, as a leader of the CRM, to not be keeping tabs on Daryl's people after leaving them. She knew what they were capable of, after all.

It would make more sense that Jadis, who used to date Father Gabriel, was keeping some sort of tabs on or a spy within Daryl's extended group and learned of the existence of the Commonwealth through them.

It was always a belief that the end of "TWD" was going to set up the long-fabled Rick Grimes movie. Now, that it's becoming a show one of three upcoming shows centered around "TWD" characters "The Walking Dead" has to set up these series somehow, right?

Bringing in the CRM, would be a clever and easy way to wrap up some loose ends while setting up the future of "TWD" universe.

How?

I've long postulated that it would be awesome to see some sort of war break out between the Commonwealth and CRM before "TWD" ends.Otherwise, why dress the Civic Republic Military and Commonwealth armies in opposite colors?

I'm partially hoping the CRM comes in guns blazing on the final two episodes of "TWD" and takes over the Commonwealth after someone hears a commotion from the recent outburst that resulted in Sebastian's death. How amazing would it be if Daryl and the Commonwealth were so caught up in their own squabble only for the CRM to blindside them both and turn everything topsy-turvey?

Maybe the CRM come in and kidnap a bunch of people, including Maggie's son, Hershel, and Negan's wife, Annie, setting up their spin-off, "TWD: Dead City," premiering next spring. Maybe this is how Daryl mysteriously gets to his spin-off that will send him to France. Maybe someone smart knows they need to get Daryl out of the way.

Honestly, it's beyond me how AMC has three main "TWD" shows (don't forget "Fear: TWD") and there haven't been crossovers to the main show in years. If there isn't a CRM connection to "The Walking Dead" by the show's end, it will have made "World Beyond" and the many nuggets about that group over the years on "Fear" look pointless. "World Beyond" star Nico Tortorella previously teased to Insider that the show was meant to lead into Rick's "TWD" movie.

What better way to tie the shows together and help tease Rick's return in an eventual spin-off by bringing everything back into the fold?

The Walking Dead just hasnt been the same since Rick Grimes left. The former sheriff was the shows original and primary protagonist, so when actor Andrew Lincoln decided it was time to leave the long-running show, a storyline was crafted to allow Rick to exit and the show to go on.

But that wasnt meant to be the end for Rick Grimes. In fact, it was setting the stage for a new chapter of his story, as it was subsequently revealed that Lincoln would return for a trilogy of movies that would further the characters arc.

Its been years since weve had any major developments on the films, which is understandable given the pandemic, but an announcement at San Diego Comic-Con revealed a huge development one that instantly changed the game for the Rick Grimes story.

No, the Rick Grimes movies are no longer happening. But dont get too upset, because they have simply evolved into a series instead. As revealed duringThe Walking Deads final ever San Diego Comic-Con panel, Andrew Lincoln and Danai Guirira will reprise their respective roles as Rick and Michonne in a new six-part limited series designed to wrap up both characters stories.

Lincoln leftTWD in its ninth season, while Gurira departed in season 10. Both those departures cast doubts on the future of Richonne, the shows core couple. Now, the spin-off hopes to showcase that future, as the two former lovers look to find themselves and each other all over again in a war against the dead.

The series is currently described as beginning with six episodes, suggesting that there could be more to the miniseries than those. Regardless, it goes without saying that fans are ecstatic at the possibility of seeing both Rick and Michonne back on our screens.

As for why the movies didnt happen, well, that just seems to be down to the fact that AMC and all involved opted for the series option instead an area in which theTWD Universe thrives.

The Walking Dead season 11 is currently airing its final episodes on AMC. Fans are curious to know if Rick will return as a special guest given that this is the final season of the main show. It would be fitting but the answer remains unknown.

The Walking Dead season 11 is about to unleash a different breed of zombie horde.

During her exclusive chat to Digital Spy, showrunner Angela Kang delved into the trailer's evolved flesh-munchers and specifically why they're being introduced for the final episodes.

"There are some parts of the process that are like: it's too secret of a creative conversation that I can't get into. But what I'll say is: we're always looking for ways to kind of turn up the heat on our heroes," she began.

"This season, one of the things that we have been doing is sort of an exploration of the past and the present. We open the season with sort of an exploration of the idea of lurkers, which are the ones that go dormant.

"Those have existed in the series for a long time. But we've never done a super deep-dive into them.

"It's sort of like that led a little organically to this idea of: we've seen other variants, too we just haven't seen them for a very, very long time. But that doesn't mean they weren't out there at some point."

Kang also suggested that the survivors' long-established rules for dealing with the walkers could ultimately be their downfall.

"If you've been used to one set of rules for zombies, and you haven't really encountered ones that do these other things, then some of your mechanisms for protecting yourself change," she said.

"It's just in the spirit of exploring what's out there. And for those who caught the end of World Beyond, we've seen that there may be a different variant that exists somewhere else, too. That's just part of the fun."

Daryl Dixon, especially, is in for a tough ride.

Last Sundays part-three premiere of The Walking Dead was somewhat underwhelming, especially as it kicked off the series final eight episodes. But that looks to be changing soon if this new trailer can be trusted, as the fight between the Alexandrians and the Commonwealth reaches a new simmering point.

The clip, from this weekends episode A New Deal sees a tense standoff between Daryl and Lance, which the former ends in what... well, what can be as close to as peaceful an end to a violent standoff can be in the world of The Walking Dead. But in a surprising move, the episode opens with narration from Judith, covering the characters lost along the way as the show shambles to its final end. Well, final-ish. There are still all those spinoffs.

The Walking Dead Teases a Simmering Conflict In a New Clip - Gizmodo

[WARNING: The following contains MAJOR spoilers for The Walking Dead Season 11, Episode 2, A New Deal.]

Well, were definitely not getting The Walking Deads source material ending.

That much is made clear by the surprising final minutes of A New Deal, which sees Sebastian Milton (Teo Rapp-Olsson) wind up as walker chow. Given the impact Sebastian has on that storys final events in the comics, its a shock to those who expected something similar to happen on the show. But first, quite a bit happens in the episode before we get to his big death.

Just as Team Daryl (Norman Reedus) and Hornsby (Josh Hamilton) are about to come to blows, Carol (Melissa McBride), Pamela Milton (Laila Robins) and Negan (Jeffrey Dean Morgan) walk in. (How did they get there so quickly? Meh, who cares.) Pamela de-escalates the situation and takes Hornsby into custody for Sebastians crimes, but not without Daryl stabbing him in the hand first. Dont worry, he says, as Hornsby screams in pain. Hell live.

The whole group goes back to the Commonwealth, although some depart to start rebuilding Alexandria; Aaron (Ross Marquand) and Lydia (Cassady McClincy) among them. Lydia has a particularly heartfelt goodbye with Carol, which makes it at least questionable whether these two characters will see each other again. On a show like this, emotional goodbyes are always suspect! Plus, Judith (Cailey Fleming) tries to tell Daryl they should try to help the people of the Commonwealth, which is not what her semi-adoptive dad wants to hear. Goddammit, just stop! he snaps. Stop it. Yikes, Daryl. Yikes. Him getting angry at Judith, I understand but the swearing just felt mean.

Most of the episode revolves around a Commonwealth celebration called Founders Day, which is exactly what it sounds like: a day that celebrates the communitys founding under the Miltons. Judith goes missing after Daryls outburst only to be found hiding in Gabriels (Seth Gilliam) church, and Eugene (Josh McDermitt) and Stephanie (Margot Bingham) go to Hornsby for damaging information about Pamela only to be told theyd be better off making nice with her than trying to bring her down. As Hornsby says, its impossible to bring down the Miltons without toppling the entire Commonwealth.

If Hornsby wont help them, they opt to get that damaging information for themselves in the form of a confession. As part of Founders Day, Sebastian is expected to give a rousing speech. Stephanie, however, gets him to admit that the whole things a joke; the random lottery at the celebration is rigged, and in fact, the whole place is rigged so that the rich can do what they want while the poor stay poor. The Commonwealth is built on buying into bulls**t, he says. Unwittingly, hes said all of this on a tape recording.

Later, at the ceremony, Sebastian steps up to the podium to give his speech and instead, what comes out is his rant to Stephanie. Naturally, the common people of the Commonwealth arent pleased to hear themselves called pathetic and that their whole lives are lies. And while all of this has been happening, Hornsbys mysterious group killed a group of workers, who then turned into walkers. The unrest and the undead throw the party into total chaos. People scream, run, get devoured by the dead only Judith and Daryl seem able to fight back.

Realizing Stephanie was responsible for his embarrassment, Sebastian tries to throw her to a walker. Instead, he ends up struggling with one, and as he screams for help, not a single member of the Commonwealth lifts a finger to save him. The walker tears into his neck, and he bleeds out in the street as his snide recorded voice echoes through the streets.
