GRAHAM The Rockingham County man arrested last month in South Carolina has been returned to Alamance County to face charges that he shot into a social workers car, missing her by inches.

Christopher Lee Neal, 42, of 115 Moyer Lane, Reidsville, was held Mondayin the Alamance Countyjail under $200,000 bond on felony charges of discharging a weapon into an occupied vehicle, and assault with a deadly weapon with intent to kill.

Just before 11:30 p.m. June 13, Carliethia Glover, a Child Protective Services employee with Rockingham County, was driving on West Webb Avenue. As Glover approached Glen Raven Road, a BMW came up beside her, and the driver fired at least one shot into her vehicle, breaking glass and missing Glover by about two inches, according to Burlington police.

Glover had been investigating a case involving Neal, police said.

Earlier in the day, DSS had visited the residence of Neal and his girlfriend and removed the children.

How Neal would have found Glovers vehicle is still something of a mystery to investigators, according to both Burlington police and the Rockingham County Sheriffs Office.

Neal had showed up at the Rockingham County DSS office late Tuesday night, when just Glover and another social worker were inside. The workers called the Sheriffs Office, and deputies arrived at the parking lot and asked Neal to leave, which he did.

Deputies escorted one of the social workers to her home in Rockingham County, and Glover to Alamance County, where she lives. Neal didnt seem to be following them, according to the sheriffs office.

Investigators believe Neals girlfriend, Latanya Whetsell, 27, was in the car with him at the time of the shooting. Both were arrested June 15 by the S.C. Law Enforcement Division near North Myrtle Beach. Whetsell was taken into custody on an unrelated charge. Neal was extraditedMonday to Alamance County.
