Man charged with killing 10-year-old girl last November – KTUU.com

ANCHORAGE (KTUU) - Police said Wednesday that they have made an arrest in connection to the killing of a 10-year-old girl last November.

Christopher Lee Turner, 25, was arrested on Tuesday on charges of manslaughter and operating a vehicle while under the influence. Turner was arraigned on those charges Wednesday and is being held without bail.

In the original story, the driver now being identified as Turner was driving through the intersection of Jewel Lake Road and 88th Avenue, when his Chevy Blazer collided with the girl, who was later identified as Kaliyah Douglas. Douglas was rushed to a nearby hospital, but declared dead.

At that time, Anchorage Police said the driver of the Blazer was cooperative and stayed at the scene during the investigation.

On Wednesday, police confirm the evidence shows two pedestrians were crossing the intersection when Turner allegedly ran a red light and struck one of them, later confirmed to be Douglas.

Family of the victim attended Turners arraignment. An aunt says it was hard to learn Turner is suspected of driving under the influence.

Its tragic but its a tragedy that could have been avoided and now our angel is gone because of this tragedy and I think it would have been comforting to know the person was functioning on all cylinders and it was just an accident, said Dorothy Hale.

Hale says Douglas family will be her voice in future court proceedings.
