Adoptable pets of the week at Animal Harbor in March 26, 2020, edition – Winchester Herald Chronicle

Theres good news in these troubling times; social distancing does not apply to dogs and cats. And to help you find someone to cuddle up with, Animal Harbor remains open as an essential service.

Shelter manager Emily Holland said, We will be operating with a limited staff in the coming weeks and by appointment only in order to safeguard the staff, public and the care of the animals.

The shelter is taking telephone calls and animals will still be available for adoption by appointment only.

Holland said, We will be offering our pet pantry services through curbside delivery assistance but anyone needing the service must call in advance at 931-962-4472 to arrange for pick up.

Animal Harbor hours are Tuesday through Friday from noon to 5 p.m. and Saturday from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.

Pets spotlighted in this edition include Cora and Dracula.

Cora is a 5-year-old Catahoula cattle dog that has experienced a tough go at life. She was picked up after a Good Samaritan witnessed her weaving in and out of traffic, terrified and unsafe.

Upon medical intake and testing, Cora was found to have heartworms.

We hate to say it, but think she may have been abandoned just for that reason alone, Holland said, For she is a fabulous girl.

Cora has now finished treatment and is awaiting a negative test result and a forever home. Staff report that Cora is great with other dogs and children, but will not be able to be housed with a cat.

Dracula is a 7-month-old black kitten who is a little shy and reserved at first, but opens up given time to establish a connection.

Dracula rules the roost in the adult cat community room where he eats, plays hard, and cat naps all day long, Holland said.

Dracula has deep golden eyes and cute kitten antics.

Staff say Dracula is becoming stressed in the shelter and is in immediate need of a low-stress home with no young children or dogs.

He is up-to-date on vaccinations, FIV/FeLV negative, neutered and microchipped.
