BBC tease Draculas terrifying bath of blood as New Years Day release confirmed – The Irish Sun

IT looks like the BBC are planning on scaring us into 2020 if these terrifying new images of their new series based on the legend of Dracula are anything to go by.

The Count, played by Claes Bang, is seen floating in a sea of blood with the channel teasing: "Your New Year is gonna suck but never fear... #Dracula, a three day reign of terror, starts 1st January on BBC One and BBC iPlayer."

The first episode will introduce English lawyer Jonathan Harker, played by John Heffernan, who in 1897 travels to Transylvania where he meets his new client, the mysterious Count Dracula.

The blood-drinking Count has ulterior motives though, drawing his plans against Victorian London. Will Harker be able to stop the Count before it's too late?

"This is the tale of a terrifying, maze-like castle, of undead Brides, and a vampire Count whose ambition is to conquer the new world," promise the BBC, who reveal that the new series will "re-introduce the world to Dracula, the vampire who made evil sexy".

Each episode will be feature-length and run across the first three days of the New Year.

Danish actor Claes Bang previously starred in The Affair and Borgen.

He said: "I am thrilled to be taking on the role of Dracula, especially when the script is in the hands of the incredible talents of Steven Moffat, Mark Gatiss and the team responsible for Sherlock.

"I'm so excited that I get to dig in to this iconic and super-interesting character. Yes he's evil, but there's also so much more to him, hes charismatic, intelligent, witty and sexy.

"I realise that there's a lot to live up to with all the amazing people that have played him over the years, but I feel so privileged, to be taking on this incredible character."

The Sun previously revealed that the character has been given a homoerotic reboot as he turns into a bisexual bloodsucker in a new BBC drama.

Mark said: Hes got broad tastes has this Dracula. Its not just a collection of Sixties women with push-up bras this time.

"Dracula has never discriminated, in so far as he can tell the difference between the sexes. He goes for his food but also people who interest him."
