Blade Will Lead a Vampire Army Against the King in Black – Screen Rant

Blade has made a career out of hunting vampires, but in the wake of Knull's attack on Earth, he's turned them into an army for the Avengers.

Warning: spoilers forKing in Black #2!

Blade, Marvels resident vampire hunter, is set to lead an army of his enemies against Knull, the King in Black. In the forthcoming Avengers #45, written by Jason Aaron with art by Luca Maresca, Blade and the vampire community must unite against a common foe. The issue, with a cover by Cory Smith, will be in stores this April.

Vampires have made a resurgence in the Marvel Universe, thanks to the Vampire Civil War storyline that ran in Avengers #14-17, also written by Aaron. In that story, an upstart vampire seemingly tried to usurp Draculas control, triggering a war between the various vampire factions. Ultimately, it emerged that Dracula had secretly used the war to cement his power, fooling Earth's heroes into considering him a spent force, now holed up in Chernobyl. Another side effect of the Vampire Civil War was Blade joining the Avengers, but ever since Knulls attack, he has advocated for forging new alliances to fight the King in Black. In King in Black #2, he was seen approaching Dracula, his most hated enemy, seeking an alliance, and in Avengers #45 readers see the result of this meeting.

A press release from Marvel announcing the issue confirms Blade will be leading a vampire army against Knull, and that he will pay a dark price that will change his world forever. While it's not specified what that price will be, any new ties to vampires - or Dracula's Vampire Nation - are antithetical to Blade's entire existence, suggesting his front of the battle against Knull is likely to bring the vampire hunter to his lowest point. Billed as a key King in Black tie-in, the issue sets up both Blade and the Avengers' future.

Knull is a being of pure evil, hellbent on plunging the universe into eternal darkness, and there are perhaps no better creatures to fight in such an environment than vampires, so drafting them to fight makes sense. The fact that Blade, an anti-hero who has made killing vampires his mission in life, is leading them into battle shows how dire the situation with Knull is. The question is: what is this dark price Blade must pay?The obvious options are that Blade now owes Dracula for the back-up, or even that he may be fully turned himself - both dangerous possibilities for a character who only recently briefly seized the powers of the Sorcerer Supreme.

When Knull attacked Earth, he quickly tore through its defenses and tore the Sentry in half. Many Marvel heroes, such as Captain America and Ms. Marvel, have now fallen under his control. This has forced the survivors to rethink their strategy and put aside old differences to fight against Knull. Blade joining forces with the creatures he has sworn to destroy is proof of this, and shows just howhow high the stakes ofKing in Blackwill continue to be whenAvengers #45lands in April.
