The anime adaptation of Castlevania is great, but it has some big differences from the video games.
For many decades, Dracula has been the pinnacle of darkness and power. His legends grew throughout time to shape him into the immortal god that he is known to be in the 21st century. Along with so many stories, movies, and TV series, his magnitude reached the video game universe with Castlevaniain 1986. Fast forward to 2017, Netflix creates an animated series that follows the adventure of Trevor Belmont and his companions on a quest to rid Wallachia of Dracula's evil.

Many years have passed since Castlevania 3: Dracula's Cursewas released to the public, Netflix used this specific storyline to create the show that was loved by millions around the world. But how accurate was the show compared to the video games? And what kind of changes did Netflix make to make Castlevania such an amazing show? Here are 10 differences between the show and the video games.
In Castlevania 3: Dracula's Curse, Trevor Belmont fights alongside Sypha the speaker, Alucard, the son of Dracula, and Grant the thief. The game dives into each character's background and connects the player to each one of them.
In the animated series, Grant, arguably the most interesting of Trevor's companions, is not even mentioned. As if he never existed in the first place, the show puts the focus on the other companions and their backgrounds instead.
The games never dissected Dracula's love for Lisa Tepes the way the series has. Every detail mentioned in the show adds reason to the madness inflicted by Dracula's fury over mankind.

Netflix's Castlevania portrays humanity's ignorance as to the real culprit behind the heinous crimes that befell Wallachia. Dracula is simply following the laws of physics in the show: every action has an equal and opposite reaction. Humanity has taken away his entire world by executing his love, he merely returned the favor.
While the games focused on the protagonists and their companions, they briefly went over Dracula and his subordinates when it came to character development.
The show created the perfect balance between both opposing forces where it shed light on Belmont's companions and Dracula's followers simultaneously. Although some details and characters have been left out, the outcome turned out to be truly engaging.
Playing through Castlevania games is never easy, and thanks to Camilla it gets harder at every step of the way. Her loyalty to Dracula is proven with the witchcraft trials that aimed to destroy any opposing witch.
The show depicts Camilla as the main conspirator against the God of Darkness. Her manipulation reached one of Dracula's generals (Hector) and convinced him of his master's weakness by using Lisa Tepes' as proof that Dracula did indeed lose his mind when he fell in love with a mortal.
Trevor Belmont is a vampire hunter with incredible powers. The video games depict him as a heavily armored fighter with an arsenal of weapons. His top was covered in a breastplate and shoulder pads to protect him from incoming attacks. Trevor's main weapon was his trusted whip while a dagger, a sword, and holy water were frequently used to fight off his enemies.

The show, however, relieves Belmont from his heavy attire and extra weapons. His breastplates and shoulder pads are replaced by two leather stripes crossing in the middle of his chest with a furry brown coat that covers most of his upper body, giving him a more imposing physique. His main weapon was later replaced by a better counterpart while his sidearms were completely neglected and left unused after his first fight.
Leon was the first to start the vampire hunting tradition for the Belmont family: he was the original Belmont. The video games made sure to make him a playable character on multiple occasions while explaining the character's heritage.
Castlevania merely mentions Leon on some occasions when Trevor and his companions discuss him and the closest thing to an appearance he got was his portrait found in the Belmont underground library.
The God Of Darkness' castle casts an imposing shadow on the citizens of Wallachia, his end is followed by its destruction in Castlevania 3, which leaves behind a poetic grave that Dracula gets entombed in.

The show neglects the destruction of the legendary vampire's home to make way to another alternative end to one of the story's characters. His castle stays intact on top of the Belmont library.
The overwhelming death of his father pushed Alucard to isolate himself in deep eternal sleep at the end of Castlevania 3
Netflix's Castlevania uses Dracula's salvaged castle to give Alucard an alternative end. He is convinced by his companions (Trevor and Sypha) to live in his father's former home to learn as much as possible from his birther's knowledge of demons, vampires, and humans.
Castlevania 3 portrays Hector as a married general in Dracula's army. His plans to betray his master and flee with his wife could not be hidden from his friend Isaac, who killed Hector's wife to spoil his plans.
The show has a different dynamic when it comes to Hector's role since he had no spouse and was planning on betraying Dracula by joining Camilla's devious quest to overthrow the God Of Darkness.
Castlevania 3 shows the puppet master as death incarnate. His fingers laid the foundation of the chaos that entangled Dracula's generals and was the main reason behind all the treachery and deception.
The Netflix show removes Death from the entire equation. Isaac was always a loyal subject and was prepared to fight to the end if it wasn't for Dracula's actions. Isaac's Lord transported him to a desert for him to start a new journey while he faced Belmont and his companions.
