Castlevania: How a Comic Book Tie-in Revealed the History of the Most MYSTERIOUS Belmont – CBR – Comic Book Resources

Most of Castlevania's heroes are well-known, but one long-forgotten Belmont did his best to stop the evil of Dracula across games and comics.

Since time immemorial, the forces of darkness coalesced every 100 years, plunging the world into terror and nightmare. Count Dracula regains his form to wreak terror on the world every century. There is one family, however, one bloodline that is capable of defeating Dracula and sending him back to the afterlife. The Belmonts, rise to meet Dracula time and time again. But for all the centuries that have come and gone, there are members of the Belmont family that are less known than their descendants. Castlevania: The Belmont Legacy by Marc Andreyko and E.J. Su is a comic book mini-series that gives a more unknown Belmont time in the spotlight: Christopher Belmont.

In Castlevania: The Belmont Legacy Sona Bartley, an evil young woman, performs a dark rite and resurrects Dracula within his tomb. As news of his return spreads throughout the country, Christopher gathers his equipment and holy weapons together and readies himself for his battle. But the stakes are high for Christopher for not only must he answer the call of his family lineage, but he is also newly wed to his wife Illyana, a strong warrior herself. With the aid of the Totoyan family, Christopher and Illyana embark on their quest to destroy Dracula.

Their adventure takes a horrible turn for the worse when Dracula kidnaps Illyana and takes a cruel bite out of Viktor Totoyan's throat. With Illyana's life hanging in the balance, Christopher and the rest of the Totoyan family journey forward. Viktor returns as a vampire but is repelled by his grandfather Gaspar, but not before biting him as well. Now, with only Pascha, the sole surviving Totoyan, and his ally Deimos, Christopher pushes ever onward, defeating hordes of undead along the way.

The final confrontation with Dracula takes place within the dark cave that he has imprisoned Illyana. As Christopher and Dracula battle, Pascha defeats both Sona and her own grandfather, Gaspar, mourning him and her brother Viktor whom she also killed. Christopher is pulled by Dracula, a great winged demon, far into the night sky before striking the death blow with his holy whip, the Vampire Killer. Illyana, Pascha, and Deimos return home with Christopher, their battle now over. The tale ends with Christopher and Illyana sharing joy in her pregnancy. But little do they know, as an image of the unborn baby comes into view, is that its eyes glow devilish red.
