Deadpool Set a World Record With His Wedding to the Queen of the Undead – CBR – Comic Book Resources

In a month-long spotlight on notable comic book weddings, CSBG looks at Deadpool's wedding to the Queen of the Undead.

This is Wedding Bells Are Ringin', a month-long examination of notable comic book weddings, since this is June, after all, and that's a time for weddings. I let you all vote and you voted for this feature to spotlight real AND fake weddings. I've decided, then, to only go with weddings that actually ended with marriages, whether dreams or not (in other words, everything but called off weddings).

Today, we look at Deadpool's world record-setting wedding to Shiklah, the Queen of the Undead!

The amusing thing about this wedding is that if you were only reading the regular Deadpool comic book, this would be a total shock to you, since while the regular comic book was coming out, Deadpool's writers, Brian Posehn and Gerry Duggan, were writing a web-comic called Deadpool: Gauntlet, which saw Deadpool interrupting Dracula's attempt to marry Shiklah...

Instead, Deadpool and Shiklah fall for each other and get married...

And then they decide to have an official wedding for their friends in Deadpool #27, which set a record for the most characters on one cover...

The opening story, by Posehn and Duggan and artists Mike Hawthorne and Jordie Bellaire, sees Deadpool introducing his SHIELD Agent friends to Shiklah...

Deadpool looks for someone to officiate the ceremony before Nightcrawler volunteers...

What's shocking is just how sweet the wedding was handled. Posehn and Duggan really played against expectations by having the ceremony not only go well, but with a little help from Thor, it didn't even rain on Deadpool's wedding day....

As noted by his friends, the wedding did not last all that long (Shiklah eventually married Dracula after all), but as long as it lasted, it was an intriguing new take on Deadpool. Kelly Thompson is currently following up that angle on Deadpool in her Deadpool series with Deadpool becoming the King of the Monsters.
