Democrats want to ‘drive a stake through Dracula’s heart’ with second impeachment – Sky News Australia

The Democrats really want to "drive a stake through Dracula's heart" with their second impeachment push to ensure there is no "Trump sequel" in the future, says Bondi Partners National Security Advisor Mark Watson. Mr Trump was the first president to be impeached by the House of Representatives twice and will be the first to face a trial after his term in office. If found guilty by the Senate, which is now controlled by the Democrats, Mr Trump will be unable to run for political office again and could lose access to other benefits - such as his pension and his travel allowance.Mr Watson said the Democrats "want to ensure that the former president cannot hold office again in future". "The other part though for the Democrats, this is performative politics," Mr Watson told Sky News. "They really need to be sending a message, not just to their base, but to the left wing of the Democrat party, that they were not going to let Donald Trump walk away without being challenged on his behaviour on January 6th and beyond".
