What better way to bring in 2020 than with a new version of Dracula - and it's all happening thanks to the BBC One re-imagination of Bram Stoker's classic novel.

The story is split up into three 90 minute episodes and will re-introduce the world to Dracula, the vampire who made evil sexy. In Transylvania in 1897, the blood-drinking Count is drawing his plans against Victorian London. And be warned: the dead travel fast.

Written and created by Sherlock co-creators Steven Moffat and Mark Gatiss, the mini-series features a cast of well known faces playing the familiar characters.

When is Dracula on TV?

The first episode ofDracula aired on New Year's Day on BBC One at 9pm. The episodes will continue to air over two consecutive nights at the same time and on the same channel.

As well as being available to watch on the BBC iPlayer, viewers who are not in the UK will be able to watch the series viaNetflix.

What is Dracula about?

Set in 1897, viewers will follow English lawyer Jonathan Harker as he heads to Transylvania to meet Count Dracula. But when he arrives, he finds himself trapped in an ancient and terrifying castle and it soon becomes clear to him that he and the Count are the only things living in the echoing halls of the moulding pile. However, the Count isn't living because he is a 400 year old vampire.

Keen for fresh blood, Dracula embarks on his travels and causes mayhem when he arrives in London. It's not long before he sets his sights on Lucy Westenra as he executes his plans to spread his foul vampire contagion around and dominate the world.

However, in a twist of fate, the Count finds himself in trouble against a group of formidable foes who will do anything to thwart his plan.

John Heffernan as Jonathan Harker

The actor played the role of Lord Altrincham in The Crown and Sam Spence in Collateral. His other acting credits also include: The Loch, Luther, Ripper Street and Outlander.

Joanna Scanlan as Mother Superior

Dolly Wells as Sister Agatha

As well as appearances in the Bridget Jones' Diary movie franchise, Wells has also appeared in Some Girls,Can You Ever Forgive Me, 45 Years and The IT Crowd.

Morfydd Clark as Mina

What else has she been in?

Clark's acting credits include: His Dark Materials, Patrick Melrose, Pride and Prejudice and Zombies, and Arthur & George.

Mark Gatiss as Frank

As well as co-writing and co-creating the drama, Gatiss is also an actor and has featured in a number of well known TV dramas and shows over the years including: Doctor Who, Sherlock, Wolf Hall, Game of Thrones, The League of Gentlemen and Good Omens.
