Gina Torres to play Draculas wife in upcoming ABC series, The Brides – Winter is Coming

Genre superstar Gina Torres has had a long career, from playing an attorney on Suits(and onPearson), the tough-as-nails Zo Washburne onFirefly, the angry god Jasmine onAngel, and much more. Now, she taking on a wholly different beast, playing on of the leads ABCs The Brides, about the paramours ofDracula, perVariety. Torres will share top billing with two other female leads, although we dont know who they are yet.

We can completely see Torres as a vampire. Shell be playing Cleo, one of Draculas three wives. Obviously, Cleo is the leader of the group, and has a rather interesting backstory:

Cleo is described as an imperious woman with a queenly manner understandably, as she was a queen in her former life, who was turned by Dracula after the death of her husband. Now a maven of New York City real estate, Cleo is challenged professionally by a mysterious newcomer, even as her ties to her sisters are dangerously fraying.

Oh, yeah, this show will be set in modern times. So dont expect to see the brides depicted how they have been in past Draculamovies, where we dont get much of a look at their internal lives:

Roberto Aguirre-Sacasa, a writer and producer on RiverdaleandChilling Adventures of Sabrina, is taking charge ofThe Bridesas a writer and executive producer, which is good news.RiverdalesMaggie Kiley will direct the pilot and executive produce.

The wizards behind this entire production are, of course, Greg Berlanti and SarahSchechter, who have a hand in Riverdale,Sabrina, the CWs DC superhero showstons of stuff.This team hasnt let us down yet, so I cant imagine it happening now.

Well definitely be keeping an eye out for more details on this series. Im super excited to see where this version of Draculas story takes us. Hopefully it can stand out at a time whenDraculastories are coming back into fashion, as for example miniseries fromMark GatissandSteven Moffat on Netflix.
