Hotel Transylvania 4 skipping theaters, straight to Amazon – Amazon Adviser

The fourth installment of the Hotel Transylvania films series will be bypassing theaters and head directly to streaming on Amazon. Hotel Transylvania: Transformania is developed by Sony Pictures Animation who is in talks with Amazon in what Variety is reporting to be a $100 million deal to stream the film globally.

The fourth film is slated for an Oct. 1 release date, and with a new surge in COVID cases, Sony has been looked for an alternative to a theatrical release. Sony is the only major studio that doesnt have a deal with a streaming service. Between 2020 and 2021, Sony has released films on Apple TV Plus, HBO Max, Hulu, Netflix, and Amazon. There is an exclusive deal coming in 2022 with Netflix for theatrical releases.

Even if the Amazon deal goes south, another streamer is bound to pick up the film as Sony seems determined to find an alternative for the release.

The likelihood of this deal not going through is slim, as Amazon knows these films are wildly popular as the first three films earned $1.3 billion globally.

Hotel Transylvania: Transformania is being billed as the final chapter of the films. Adam Sandler and Kevin James, who originally played Dracula and Frankenstein, will now be replaced by Brian Hull and Brad Abrell, respectively. Returning cast includes Selena Gomez, Andy Samberg, David Spade, Steve Buscemi, Kathryn Hahn, Jim Gaffigan, Molly Shannon, Keegan-Michael Key and Fran Drescher.

This film will see Drac and all his pals transformed into humans when Van Heslings invention Monsterfication Ray malfunctions. Johnny is transformed into a dragon and enjoys the changes he experiences, while the monsters are not impressed with their human forms. It is a race against time to find a cure before they are forever stuck in their new forms.

Watch for Hotel Transylvania: Transformania on Amazon Prime Videoon Oct. 1, 2021.
