PFAA production of Dracula to begin – Waynesville Daily Guide

The Pulaski County Fine Arts Association's (PFAA) next performance is a haunting love story. The theater is performing Dracula, an adaptation by John Mattera.

This adaptation follows the traditional story fairly closely. While the Daily Guide stopped by to watch a rehearsal of the play, the cast displayed great chemistry and enthusiasm. This performance is sure to be a treat for all.

There will also be some new and interesting pieces to the set design that they have not tried before. This performance is being directed by Stephen Woolsey and the assistant director is April York. York expressed that this performance of Dracula is very exciting because many of the actors are brand new to the stage.

Count Dracula is played by Johnny York. The Daily Guide spoke with York and he expressed that he is a bit of a seasoned veteran in theater. He played roles such as: Professor Bear in Little Women, a Jewish Doctor in Auschwitz Lullaby, Bill Sikes in Oliver and The Mad Hatter in Alice in Wonderland. York stated that he seems to get casted for the villain most often. He said he played a hero once, in The Three Musketeers as Aramis.

The Daily Guide asked York what he thought was the most challenging part of playing Dracula? York responded with, It is very difficult to carry your lines when you wear fangs.

The Daily Guide also spoke with Tammy Bensman who plays Mrs. Martha Westenra. Bensman is totally new to theater. She explained that trying out was a bucket list sort of thing for her. She explained that she decided to give it a try, tried out and she didnt really count on getting the role. She said that she was so excited when she received the call that she had been selected for the role. Bensman expressed that she just thinks the whole thing is amazing. She not only enjoys being on stage but she greatly enjoys sitting watching her fellow actors go through their lines.

Performances will be held: September 8-9, 15-17, and 22-23. Friday and Saturday the curtain goes up at 7:30pm and Sunday will be a Matinee. Sunday, September 17 the curtain goes up at 2:30pm. For more information visit their website at http://www.pfaa-tots.webs.com.
