[RIP] ‘The Fly’ and ‘Dawn of the Dead’ Costume Designer Denise Cronenberg Has Passed Away – Bloody Disgusting

Weve learned the sad news this week that Denise Cronenberg, the sister of David Cronenberg, passed away at the age of 81 last month at Joseph Brant Hospital in Ontario, Canada.

Award-winning artist Denise Cronenberg was the costume designer on several of her little brothers films beginning with The Fly in 1986. Denise brought her style to most of Davids movies in the years that followed, including Dead Ringers, Naked Lunch, M. Butterfly, Crash, eXistenZ, Spider, A History of Violence, Eastern Promises, Cosmopolis and Maps to the Stars.

Even prior to The Fly, Denise Cronenberg was credited as wardrobe trainee on Videodrome and wardrobe mistress on The Dead Zone, both films directed by David Cronenberg.

Cronenbergs costume design credits also include Bless the Child, Dracula 2000, Dawn of the Dead (2004), Dead Silence, Shoot Em Up, The Incredible Hulk and Resident Evil: Afterlife.

You can read a beautiful obituary over on The Star.
