The best shows to stream this winter: From ‘Dracula’ to ‘Sex Education’ – New York Post

Winter is the season to stay in your apartment and curl up on your couch with a cozy sweater and a warm drink. But that doesnt mean you have to forgo quality entertainment. Here are the hottest shows to stream during the cold weather months.

Brockmire is a delightfully irreverent show airing on IFC that stars Hank Azaria (The Simpsons), as Jim Brockmire, an alcoholic sports broadcaster fired for an on-air tirade against his unfaithful wife. The show follows him a decade later as he rebuilds his life in a small town. Its wickedly funny and scheduled to end after four seasons. The first three are available on Hulu. Season 4 is out in March.

In the mood for a good nature show to take you to blue skies while youre trapped in your drafty apartment? If youve exhausted Planet Earth, try Americas National Parks. It aired in 2015 on National Geographic and has episodes on the Grand Canyon, Yellowstone, the Everglades and more. Now on Disney+.

Maybe the vampire trend isnt dead just yet. Based on Bram Stokers classic vampire novel, this BBC/Netflix three-episode miniseries stars Danish actor Claes Bang in the title role. Expect the show to be slick and stylish, as its the brainchild of Steven Moffat and Mark Gatiss creators of BBCs Sherlock that made Benedict Cumberbatch a star. It hits Netflix Saturday.

This comedy series, which is an offshoot of producer and writer Rob Corddrys Emmy-winning show Childrens Hospital, follows two American doctors (Erinn Hayes and Rob Huebel) who discover a world-threatening virus while stationed at a pediatric hospital in Brazil. Jan 10, Netflix.

Unfortunately, this AMC show was canceled after two seasons, but fortunately, theyre both available on Hulu starting Jan. 13, and theres no cliffhanger end. This show is a gently winsome tale about a misfit former surfer (played by Wyatt Russell, the son of Goldie Hawn and Kurt Russell) finding meaning by joining a mysterious fraternal order. Pleasant, sun-drenched and unassuming, its the TV equivalent of drinking a hot toddy during the winter.

Zo Kravitz stars in a gender-swapped version of Nick Hornbys 1995 novel, which was also made into a 2000 film following Rob, a record store owner whos trying to get over a past love. John Cusack played Rob in the film, Kravitz plays a female version of the character in the show set in Crown Heights, Brooklyn her mom, Lisa Bonet, played a Cusack girlfriend in the film. The series drops Feb. 14 on Hulu.

Executive produced by the husband-wife duo behind hit rom-com The Big Sick (Kumail Nanjiani and Emily V. Gordon), along with Master of None co-creator Alan Yang, this new anthology series is about the lives of immigrants in America. Out Jan. 17 on Apple TV+.

Season 1 of this surprisingly sweet yet raunchy comedy followed awkward teen boy Otis (Asa Butterfield), as he accidentally becomes a sex therapist to his classmates at school, thanks in part to the fact that his mom (Gillian Anderson) is one much to his chagrin. The show is a hilarious yet moving exploration of friendship and coming of age, with breakout performances from Butterfields co-stars Ncuti Gatwa (who plays his BFF Eric) and Margot Robbie look-alike Emma Mackey (who plays his pal Maeve). Binge the whole thing when Season 2 hits Netflix Jan 17.

Season 1 of the comedy starring Saturday Night Lives Aidy Bryant got widespread acclaim for depicting the life of an overweight woman in a way that wasnt condescending rather, it was realistic and even celebratory, which is a TV rarity. Catch up on Season 1 and watch Season 2 when it hits Hulu on Jan 24.

Written by and starring Rob McElhenney (who created and stars as Mac in Its Always Sunny in Philadelphia) and co-produced by Charlie Day (Always Sunnys Charlie), this half-hour comedy is set in a video game development studio. Expect crass humor and zany concepts. Feb. 7 on Apple TV+

Produced by Wanda Sykes and Wilson Cruz, this docuseries follows the way the LGBTQ movement has changed TV, interviewing various celebrities, including Janet Mock, Neil Patrick Harris, Lena Waithe, Anderson Cooper, Ellen DeGeneres and more. Feb. 14, Apple TV+

Based on the best-selling novel of the same name by Celeste Ng, Fires is set to be the next Big Little Lies. The show stars Reese Witherspoon and Kerry Washington as two mothers in the same community whose lives intersect in a way that involves secrets and lies. Premieres March 18 on Hulu.
