Written and directed by Jeremy Sauliner, this 2016 horror-thriller is sure to leave you shocked and disturbed by its grotesque nature. A horror film that pins neo-Nazis versus punk rockers at a remote Oregan roadhouse turns into an even more terrifying bottle film that creates an experience of suspense and high tensions. Sauliner wanted to direct a thriller in a green room and made the most of his idea in this small budget picture. With a budget of $5,000,000, Green Room sports some big names and talented actors. Stars that include the late Anton Yelchin, Imogen Poots, Patrick Stewart, and Alia Shawat with phenomenal cinematography provided by Sean Porter.

Aaron Moorhead and Justin Benson had their hands full while creating this micro-budget science fiction horror. Moorhead and Benson directed, produced, and starred in the film. On top of that, Moorhead was the cinematographer while Benson wrote the film. Their performances as actors shines through in this film about 2 brothers revisiting the UFO death cult they escaped a decade earlier. In a search for closure, theyre forced to reconsider their former cults beliefs after being confronted with incomprehensible events surrounding the camp.

Starring Michael Trucco, Kate Siegel, Samantha Sloyan, and John Gallagher Jr. this horror thriller delivers when it comes to heart-pounding suspense and classic slasher tropes. Directed and edited by Mike Flanagan, with co-writing from his wife Katie Siegel, Hush follows a deaf author who is stalked in her home by a masked killer. On a budget of $1,000,000, Flanagan makes the most of ambient sounds to create a truly bone-chilling experience.

This psychological techno-thriller was written by Isa Mazzei and directed by Daniel Goldhaber in both of their feature film debuts. The film follows a camgirl who has her world flipped upside down when a mysterious woman who looks like her takes over her channel. With a $1,000,000 budget, Cam is partially based on Mazzeis own experience as a camgirl and Madeline Brewer delivers a breakout performance as the movies star.

The only survivor horror to make our list, Sweetheart features a captivating performance by lead actress Kiersey Clemons. Shes a shipwreck survivor on an uninhabited island and must protect herself against hostile forces that appear each night in this J.D. Dillard-directed motion picture.

The oldest film to make our list, this Sam Rami classic still stands up to this day. Rami shot this supernatural horror on a budget of around $350,000 in the woods of Tennessee at a remote cabin. Rated NC-17, a group of friends come across an old book, and once the text is read aloud the dead are awakened and total chaos ensues.

Written and directed by legendary filmmaker Guillermo del Toro, Pans Labyrinth is a perfect blend of reality and horror in a dark fantasy feature film. Fans of movies such as The Wizard of Oz or Alice in Wonderland that wish they had more thrills and suspense are in luck because del Toro creates a world filled with fear and disturbing imagery.

Starring Jodie Foster and Anthony Hopkins, this 1990s classic is one of the best and most-influential psychological horrors of all-time. Directed by the highly acclaimed filmmaker, the late Jonathan Denme, Silence of the Lambs is adapted from the 1988 novel of the same name and has everything a horror fan could want including cannibalistic serial killers.

This Persian-language psychological horror follows a mother and daughter who are being mysteriously haunted by an evil force. Directed by Babak Anvari, Under the Shadow is set in the 1980s Tehran during the War of the Cities and combines chilling suspense with mindful social-context.
