Did you know that research has indicated horror movie buffs to be more resilient in a crisis? People who watch a lot of horror movies & those with deadpan humor are likely to be less psychologically distressed in scary, uncertain times like the current pandemic.

Using the Pandemic Psychological Resilience Scale (PPRS), the research maintains that those with more experience engaging with fictional scenarios involving dangerous phenomena, such as morbidly curious individuals, may also be more likely to deal with a pandemic in a more resilient way. Good for us, weve plenty of time to watch horror movies to build up resilience.

Heres a round-up of some of our favorites available to watch on Netflix.

Do zombies sound scary to you? Then this South Korean movie could be the right pick for you. #Alive has a lot of parallels to the current pandemic in that everyones advised to stay home & avoid going out. The common thread is the quest for survival.

At first, when the lockdown begins, its all fun & games for Joob-woo, the protagonist. And quite literally, too he enjoys computer games & social media enough to not want to socialize with the outside world. But he soon realizes that the residents in his high-rise building have been infected by the zombies. Thats when his self-isolation & struggle for survival actually begins.

Another South Korean horror flick on the list, Train to Busan hits too uncomfortably close to home too. The story follows a group of passengers on a harrowing train journey as a zombie outbreak sweeps the country.

Not all serial killer portrayals stand the test of time, but Psycho is still as terrifying as it was more than five decades ago. The story is actually inspired by the life of a real-life convicted murderer often referred to as the Butcher of Plainfield or the Plainfield Ghoul, who basked in butchered human parts & used them for home decor purposes.

John Krasinski of The Office fame made a major breakthrough with this movie he can direct absolutely terrifying details in the movie. A Quiet Place similar to how Bird Box that released around the same time feeds upon sensory terror.

In this world, humans are being chased & killed by some noise-sensitive creatures. The Abbott family is forced to communicate in sign language & stay mum in order to survive.

Combine these genres: paranormal, romance, comedy, zombie horror. The result is Warm Bodies, a unique zombie movie where the zombie saves a living girl & they both form an explicable relationship. Its unnatural, of course, so it sets into motion a series of misadventures.

Based on Isaac Marions eponymous novel, Warm Bodies makes the apocalypse look enticing.

Medical mysteries can be disturbing, but consider being trapped in a haunted house while undergoing treatment for one. The movie, Eli feeds on this fear what if the people meant to make you better are actually making you worse? Dr. Horn is at the center of this gut-wrenching phenomenon, getting only spookier & macabre as the treatments progress.

Eli may not be everyones cup of tea, but for those with a knack for chilling storylines, its a must-watch.

Aint no horror movie like a psychological horror with Jack Nicholson in it. The Shining is another contemplation on the impact that isolation can have on the human mind. Jack Torrance & his family move into an isolated hotel, where slowly he begins to lose his sanity.

The premise is frightening because of the presence of an unreliable narrator of the story. Jack Nicholson gives an impeccable performance in The Shining, making it one of the all-time best horror flicks.
