‘Host’ Filmmakers Tease the Upcoming Horror Movie They’re Making With Sam Raimi – Bloody Disgusting

If youre a fan of Shudders Host and you want to learn as much as you can about the production, youll want to give a listen to the latest episode of Bloody Disgustings Boo Crew Podcast, which features a nearly hour-long interview with director Rob Savage and co-writer Jed Shepherd. Savage and Shepherd touch upon everything from the real seance the cast conducted prior to filming the 60-minute movie to the films VFX and how they were pulled off remotely by the team, and they even tease a behind the scenes featurette thats coming soon.

During the chat, Savage and Shepherd also touch upon what theyve got in the works post-Host, again promising an amazing follow-up film theyre hoping to make. As they note, whether or not that movie gets made will largely depend on how many people stream Host through Shudder. But one movie thats definitely in the works is a one-location supernatural feature being produced by Sam Raimi. That project was announced before Host became an indie horror sensation, and the duo tells the Boo Crew that its going to be something special.

Weve got a great script that were really excited about. Its not a spoiler to say that its in this similar supernatural space, but it pushes in a much different direction from Host, Savage explains. Its one of those ideas where you hear it, its very simple, and youre amazed that nobodys ever done it before. When we first talked about it, we immediately Googled and we couldnt believe that nobody happened upon this idea before. It feels so fundamental in the way that it tackles the horror genre.

He continues, So were really hoping that when the world goes back to normal thatll be the next thing we do outside of the found footage genre.

Yeah, its one of those ideas where, like, Im constantly watching old horror movies thinking, It must be from this. Its too good to be true. But its not. Its original, Shepherd adds.

Speaking about a recent table-read of the script, Savage notes, Working with [Sam Raimi] is an absolute dream for both of us. Hes a filmmaker who really inspired us.
