Huma on her first horror film – Khaleej Times

HUMA QURESHI MUST have grown up watching cheesy horror movies like the Evil Dead series (like most of us) but when it came to working on a film in this genre, she made sure that the movie had good script and no cheap thrills. She was happy when the Indian remake of 2013 Hollywood hit Oculus came to her. The Gangs of Wasseypur actress works with her brother Saqib Salem for the first time in this horror film. Dobaara, which has opened to mixed reviews, is out in the cinema halls right now.

Our conversation with Huma

What inspired you to sign Dobaara? The fact that I loved the origina film Oculus inspired me to sign this film. I thought Oculus was a great film and fabulously done. It was very cool and an international standard horror film. For me, for all of us, the challenge was to make a world class horror film for India and Dobaara seemed to be that sort of a film.

How was the experience of working with your brother? Working with your sibling is always fun but sometimes it can also be challenging, since both of you can take each other for granted. But Saqib is my best friend and I had a lovely time working with him. I got to see a different side to his personality. Hopefully, we will do many more films together.

How was the experience of working with Gurinder Chaddha in Viceroy's House? Gurinder is a fabulous director. Viceroy's House is a very unusual and different film for her also to do, considering it's an epic partition love story. It's a very beautiful film. I had a great time working in her film. She and her husband put in a lot of blood, sweat, heartfelt passion in the film. In India, it releases on the 4th of August and we are very excited to share it with the Indian audience
