IT, Bone Tomahawk, Rosemarys Baby and other epic horror movies – 1428 Elm

IT was a box office success when the film was released in September of 2017 and one of the best adaptations of Stephen Kings work. Clocking in with a run time exceeding two hours, this horror masterpiece is epic in scope and will stay with you forever.

Here is our list of some sweeping genre flicks to immerse yourself in during this time of COVID-19 self-isolation.

This treatment of Stephen Kings novel about an ancient evil in Derry, Maine and the kids who have to fight IT is a horror filled work of art. Andy Muschietti captures the relationship between the members of the Losers Club perfectly.

When you are watching this adaptation, you become a part of the story. Pennywise (brilliantly played by Bill Skarsgard) is the stuff of nightmares and truly terrifying. What makes this production work so well is the fact that you genuinely care about the characters and you want them to defeat the evil clown.

The actors may be young but they are extremely skilled at their craft and compelling to watch. IT is the perfect movie to get lost in.

Veteran genre actor, Kurt Russell and Patrick Wilson together in one film? Yes, it sounds like a dream but it is very real. What happens when a sheriff, a cowboy, a gunslinger and an old man come together to fight a marauding group of cannibal savages? Pure magic, thats what.

This horror western may be a tad slow for some who want non-stop action but trust us, it is the interaction between the characters that makes this movie a must-see effort. Oh, and there is that one particular scene that will stay with you for quite some time

Rosemarys Baby is one of our favorite supernatural comfort flicks. Satan worshippers in an older apartment complex, an ambitious, young actor and a nave adoring and pregnant wife make this Roman Polanski helmed adaptation of Ira Levins book terrifying.

Mia Farrow is in her element as Rosemary Woodhouse. All she wants is a baby and when her husband Guy suddenly gives in to her wishes, all hell breaks loose (pun intended). She spends quite a bit of time with elderly Minnie Castevet who seems benign. Maybe a bit intrusive but she appears to have Rosemarys best interests in mind.

However, when the mother to be starts remembering how her little bundle of joy was conceived, let the paranoia begin. The result is a pretty spellbinding piece of film.

William Friedkins movie is like a PSA for not messing around with Ouija boards. When lonely, pre-pubescent Regan MacNeil starts playing with her imaginary friend, Captain Howdy, things are going to get very dark, very quickly.

Her actress mother Chris begins to notice that her daughter isnt her usually bubbly self anymore. Thinking the problem is neurological, she takes Regan to the best brain doctors that money can buy to find out what is wrong with her.

Unfortunately, the issue isnt medical, its spiritual. Regan is possessed by the ancient demon, Pazuzu. Enter Father Lankester Merrin, the eminent demonologist and exorcist to purge the little girl of the evil entity. One of the most epic battles of good vs evil in all of filmdom. The power of Christ compels you.

We can understand why people would say that this David Lynch creep fest isnt horror but we would like to argue that it is. The director always has an element of downright terrifying imagery in his motion pictures but this whodunit as it slowly descends into the underbelly of suburbia becomes increasingly disturbing.

BOB is the boogeyman that you dont want to tangle with. This particular demon is heinous and depraved. Unfortunately, Laura Palmer fell victim to this madman. Chronicling the last few days of her life, we get to see that not everything is what it seems.
