A glamorous music festival with tickets costing up to $12,000 and backed by Bella Hadid and Kendall Jenner has been branded a disaster by attendees, with some even saying it's like an ominous "horror movie" plot.
Fyre Festival, co-organised by Ja Rule, had boldly described itself as the unparalleled best and promised two unforgettable weekends mixing music with cuisine, design and luxury on a private island in the Bahamas.
It was backed by supermodels Bella and Kendall; the former appears in a promo video on the festival's website, while the latter posted an Instagram in January urging people to attend.
But the experience has become unforgettable for entirely the wrong reasons, with hordes of angry ticket holders branding.
Complaints include luxury accommodation turning out to be half built tents, cancelled flights, poor quality food and lack of security or organisation.
"So Fyre Fest is a complete disaster. Mass chaos. No organization. No one knows where to go. There are no villas, just a disaster tent city," said ticket holder William N. Finley IV , who has been documenting it all on Twitter.
Another guest added: "The "gourmet cuisine" this weekend was included in the ticket cost. We are being fed salads and ham and cheese sandwiches out of this tent."
The barrage of complaints left the Caribbean's Fyre Festival trending worldwide, with Twitter users comparing the experience to a "horror movie" plot.
"Is this meant to be a music festival or are they trying to recreate some horror movie like #Saw on a mass scale?" wrote one.
"So some ppl paid thousands for a festival thinking it was the next Coachella but ended up in a Lord of the Flies experiment," said another.
"That awkward moment when you think you're going to a music festival on a private island but it's actually the Hunger Games," added a third.
Furious attendees who forked out big money for tickets have complained about being stranded, cancelled flights, poor quality food, accommodation that didnt live up to expectation and general disorganisation, as well as cancelled headliners.
The festival billed itself as the height of luxury, glamour and exclusivity taking place across two weekends; its website features a video of beautiful models including Bella Hadid running across golden sands, winking at the camera and having the best time ever.
But many fans have taken to Twitter to share pictures of the reality, showing an empty concierge stand, basic accommodation and kitchens, and uninspiring food a world away from what they had imagined.
William N. Finley IV tweeted that he'd been on a plane from 1.30am waiting to leave the island but it's yet to take off. He then updated to say all passengers had been told to get off while a new crew is brought in.
Meanwhile, other social media users not in attendance have been poking fun at the festival's failure, comparing it to Hunger Games, The Lord of the Flies and questioning if it's all a social experiment involving rich kids.

Others couldn't resist pulling Bella's best friend Kendall Jenner into the mix, poking fun at Kendall's controversial Pepsi advert - now pulled - which saw her stop a protest by handing out soft drinks.
Tickets for Fyre Festival had started from $450 per day and went up to $12,780 for the most VIP experience.
The schedule for both weekends had included a mix of music, water sports, massage, yoga and other activities.
Blink-182, Skepta, Major Lazer and Disclosure were among the listed acts.
Fyre Festival posted a statement to Instagram this morning admitting things got off to an unexpected start and saying organisers were working to rectify the situation.
Things got off to an unexpected start at day one of Fyre Festival, it said.
We are working to comfortably accommodate guests and deliver a great experience. If you have needs, please head to the "BLUE HOUSE" on the main festival site. Security, first aid, and Fyre Festival staff are here to assist immediately, 24/7.
Due to circumstances beyond our control, and in line with a culture of safety, all inbound charter flights to the Exumas have been canceled. Your ticket and any funds uploaded to your RFID band will be refunded.
Thank you for bearing with us as we work through the growing pains that every first year event experiences. Revised itinerary information will be shared soon for the remainder of this weekend and weekend two.
Blink-182, who were due to headline across both weekends, pulled out earlier this week, telling fans they were "not confident" they could give a quality performance at the event.
In a statement, they said: "Regrettably and after much careful and difficult consideration, we want to let you know that we won't be performing at Fyre Fest in the Bahamas this weekend and next weekend.
"We're not confident that we would have what we need to give you the quality of performances we always give our fans."
