According to Deadline, Malcolm McDowell will be starring in the upcoming indie horror film, The Benefactor. He will play a once great painter who takes up an artist residency after the death of his wife. Unfortunately, he soon discovers that his new dwelling may be haunted and the spirits are driving him to madness.

David Carson who previously worked with the actor on Paramounts Star Trek: Generations, will helm the film. In our humble opinion, McDowell was the best part of that effort so its nice to know he will be in familiar hands.

In the past, the director has been behind the camera on television series such as The Dresden Files and Smallville. His last directorial feature film was 2004s Unstoppable with Wesley Snipes. The Benefactor was written by newcomers Mark and Anna Casadei, who will also produce.

Fans will recognize Malcolm McDowell as the incredibly sinister Alex from Stanley KubricksA Clockwork Orange (1971). The veteran thespian has played a variety of roles throughout his career in many different genres.

His take on Samuel Loomis in Rob Zombies Halloween (2007) was so unique that it erased any thought of Donald Pleasance while viewing. There is no doubt that McDowell is a consummate performer. It will be great to have him take the lead in a horror flick.

Information on the release date for The Benefactor should be forthcoming once production details are revealed.
