One of the scariest Christmas horror movies of all time was filmed in Toronto – Curiocity

Horror shouldnt be something thats ever associated with Christmas, but in this case, it definitely is. Dubbed by some as the scariest film ever made, Black Christmas is one of the first slasher films of the 1970s and is said to be loosely based on a string of murders that took place in Quebec around the holiday season.

The film follows a group of sorority sisters who are terrorized by a mysterious stalker during their Christmas break. As one girl goes missing and another turns up dead, the group sets out to find the person responsible, not realizing how close to home their stalker really is.

The film has hundreds of reviews on IMDb, and one of the top reviews called it perhaps one of the most underrated films in Cinema history.

Not the type of film Id watch over the holidays, but much better than I expected, another person wrote.

Black Christmas was filmed entirely in Toronto and IMDb also lists many of the locations that were used in the movie. The sorority house is located in midtown, near St. Clair West and Avenue Rd, and it looks exactly the same today as it did in the film.

The University of Toronto campus was another primary filming destination, namely the Hart House and Victoria College buildings.

In the east end, 97 Main St was used as the exterior of the police station and High Parks Grenadier Pond also made an appearance.

It seems that Toronto has been a hotspot for horror movie productions over the years at least 10 of the most iconic Halloween movies were filmed in the city, including Dawn of the Dead, Silent Hill, Bride of Chucky, and Saw.

If youve had your fill of Kevin McAllister and the Griswolds this holiday season, maybe its time to shake things up and give this film a try.
