A horror filmed, inspired by the 2008 flick, "The Strangers" filmed a portion of the upcoming movie in Mason County recently.

In "The Strangers," a familys road trip takes a dangerous turn when they arrive at a secluded mobile home park to stay with some relatives and find it mysteriously deserted. Under the cover of darkness, three masked psychopaths pay them a visit to test the familys every limit as they struggle to survive, according to a release from Aviron Pictures.

According to Jon Wagner, the line producer on the film, the Davis Lane Bridge in Mason County was closed down June 30 into the morning of July 1 in order for shooting to take place.

"We were in and out in about 16 hours, and put the crew up overnight in the French Quarter Inn in Maysville after the shoot," he said. "They were very hospitable there, and great about working with our overnight schedule."

Wagner said Mason County was chosen for the scene after the film location scout discovered it.

"We have a location scout who scours the area for our locations, and who found the bridge," he siad. "It worked perfectly for the scene, because it has a very unique look that the director really liked. Also, all of the neighbors in the area were very friendly and helpful in accommodating us, which always makes shooting go smoothly."

Mason County Judge-Executive Joe Pfeffer said he was pleased to see Mason County chosen for one of the scenes.

"The scout contacted me and we set up the site location," he said. "I had been to some conferences and there had been some talk of Kentucky being used for film locations, so I wasn't really surprised. But, it's still nice to have Mason County chosen. Anytime you'll be seen by thousands of people, it's a good thing. Maybe it's a chance to grow into other filming in the county."

Pfeffer said the sheriff's department and road crew gave some minor assistance with the shooting.

"They were in the area," Pfeffer said. "The road crew helped with a few small things, but the taxpayers are not out anything. Everything was billable to them. We sent invoices for the work. And, all the neighbors in the area were fine with the shooting. They were great and understanding."

The film stars Christina Hendricks from "Mad Men," Martin Henderson from "The Ring," Bailee Madison from "Once Upon A Time," and Lewis Pullman from "Aftermath."

The film is directed by Johannes Roberts, who directed "47 Meters Down," and the script was written by Bryan Bertino, who wrote the script for "The Strangers" and Ben Ketai, who wrote the script for "The Forest."

A release date for the movie has not been set.
