Fans of The Mandalorian should check out these 10 sci-fi horror movies filled with terrifying extra-terrestrials for similar genre fun.

The Mandalorian ended up as one of the most successful shows in the Disney+ streaming service's short history. While it is set in the world of Star Wars, there is so much more to the movie than just more adventures in space opera. This is high adventure, samurai action movies, and even a little bit of horror.

Horror in science fiction is nothing new and is a nice change-of-pace from the space operathat defines franchises like Star Wars and Star Trek. These movies allow fans to delve deep into a world of extra-terrestrial horror, and The Mandalorian enjoyed tipping its toes into horror tropes more than once in its first two seasons.

Vin Diesel became a monster star thanks to theFast & Furious franchise, but he also starred in a movie that resulted in two sequels. That movie was the 2000 sci-fi horror movie,Pitch Black. Unlike the second movie, which put a large emphasis on science fiction, the first and third were pure horror, with the first a masterclass on claustrophobic sci-fi horror. Vin was Riddick, a convict who could see in the dark, which made him invaluable when he ended up on a planet where a total eclipse unleashed monsters onto all life forms.

Before becoming known as the director ofvideo game adaptation, Paul W.S. Anderson directed a sci-fi horror movie in 1997 titled Event Horizon. This starts as a regular space exploration movie but becomes something much darker when a missing spacecraft called the Event Horizon reappears around Neptune's orbit. When a crew is sent to check out the ship, they find that something evil returned with it. The movie was a critical and commercial flop but picked up a huge cult following when it hit DVD.

While Arnold Schwarzenegger enjoyed his biggest breakout thanks to the Terminator franchise, he was just as big a star in the alien monster movie Predator in 1987. In the film,Schwarzenegger was part of a paramilitary rescue team sent to rescue hostages in Central America. However, while on a mission, his team ended up in a life or death battle with an extra-terrestrial hunter who arrived on Earth looking for fresh game.

John Carpenter made several movies that ended up as cult favorites, and one of his most beloved is the 1982 remake of The Thing From Another World. Known as John Carpenter's The Thing, this movie took the original premise and added some gruesome, horrific moments.

At a station in the Antarctic, a group of researchers ends up trapped when a parasite extra-terrestrial lifeform ends up in their camp, one that can replicate any living organism. Not knowing who they can trust, the remaining survivors are in a fight for their lives.

A Quiet Place is a 2018 horror movie that takes the alien invasion horror genre and fits it into a post-apocalyptic structure. Extra-terrestrials have invaded Earth and have killed much of the population. They are blind and attack solely on sound, so the only way to survive is by becoming deathly quiet. The movie focuses on one family trying to survive, which becomes tough when their youngest child dies, and the mother ends up pregnant.

In 1978, a television remake of Invasion of the Body Snatchers arrived and was a rare case where the remake was better than the original in almost every way. The movie is about an extraterrestrial invasion of Earth where the aliens kidnap and enslave humans to take their places in replicated bodies. Made during the Cold War, this was a take on the Communist scare with the horror of aliens invading our suburbs, a true fear for society at the time.

In 2010, Gareth Edwards made a low-budget horror monster movie and made it look like big-budget films thanks to his expertise with CGI graphics, which he created on his own personal computer. It was such a great success that it earned him a big-budget movie job withGodzilla in 2014.

The movie focused on a world where extra-terrestrials invaded the planet. As the giant monsters roamed the Earth, humanity tried to stop them by building walls to keep them out of populated areas. A mercenary is then hired to go into a monster-infested country to save a wealthy American's daughter.

Before becoming a massive fan-favorite director with Guardians of the Galaxy, James Gunn cut his teeth in the indie studio Troma. He then got a chance to make a Hollywood creature feature with Slither. The movie starred Nathan Fillion as a local law enforcement officer who helped Elizabeth Banks' housewife after her husband (Michael Rooker) began to morph into a monstrous creature. It was an alien invasion, where alien parasites infected the humans and turned them into monsters.

The first Alien movie was a true tour-de-force of terror, a haunted house movie in outer space. However, for fans ofThe Mandalorian, a more apt option is the second movie, Aliens. Directed by James Cameron,Aliens took the idea of the horrific alien creatures in outer space and added a militaristic touch, making it more of an action-horror movie, with big guns and even more explosive action. It might be the perfect extra-terrestrial horror movie for fans of Star Wars.

Star Wars fans of the sequel trilogy can catch one of John Boyega's earliest roles in the 2011 sci-fi horror movie Attack the Block. The movie is directed by Joe Cornish and stars Boyega as a teenager trying to survive an alien invasion of Earth with his friends. Also appearing in the movie is Nick Frost from Shaun of the Dead and Jodie Whittaker, the most recent Doctor in Doctor Who.
