Since its Friday the 13th, here are 7 horror movies on Amazon Prime Video and Netflix to watch today – GQ India

Paraskevidekatriaphobia, according to Wikipedia, is the term that describes our fear of the Friday, the 13th. It is born from the Greek words paraskev and dekatres, meaning Friday and thirteen, respectively. There is also a generic fear around the number 13 in the Western calendar because its considered unlucky by most.

But all us (horror-movie freaks) know is that it is just another excuse to binge on some classic horror movies. And, we took the liberty of making a list of the best horror movies on Amazon Prime video and Netflix.

According to History.com, The Washington Post carried at least two stories of the exorcism of a boy, back in 1949. In one, the newspaper reported, the boy broke into a violent tantrum of screaming, cursing and voicing of Latin phrasesa language he had never studied. While it could be possible that the boy was just ill or troubled, the reports cant be overlooked. Regardless, this early 70s movie based on those reports is still one of the scariest on OTT platforms and is one you should stream today.

Popular as one of the movies that brought woe to almost everyone associated with it. The Guardian and Vanity Fair also reported how the crew were affected in their personal life after working on the Rosemarys Baby. Scary AF. (Viewer discretion: watch it at your own risk). The movie is based on a book by Ira Levin, with the same title and the true stories surrounding it make it all the scarier.

If youre somebody who loves psychological thrillers, this Oscar-nominated movie on Netflix should be your pick for the weekend. It tells the story of a family of four trying to protect itself from blind yet sound sensitive monsters who have killed most of the human race. It also features real-life couple Emily Blunt and John Krasinski in lead roles, with the latter having directed the film too. Be prepared to keep the lights on tonight.

The newest addition to quality horror movies on Amazon Prime Video will scare the daylights out of you. The film is based on Stephen Kings novel, with the same title. In a story on Yahoo, King described how he actually lived some of the scenes from the movie, when he briefly lived with his mother in the 1970s. He found their cat dead in the neighbours yard and was also made aware of a pet cemetery behind his mothers house. In fact, he also said that his son once made a beeline for the road. Not sacred yet? You must definitely stream Pet Sematary then.

Greed, gold and the curse of a demon god the rich visual storytelling in Tumbbad encompasses all that and more. Set in Maharashtra, between 1918 and 1947, Rahi Anil Barves directorial debut follows three generations of a Konkanastha Brahmin family who seek an ancestral treasure that has been jinxed by the gods.

In this film, Anushka Sharma plays the role of Rukhsana, the daughter of a woman who fell victim to a satanic ritual. When her mother accidentally passes away, a kind-hearted man gives her place in her house as he believes that she is a victim of abuse. However, things arent what they seem with Rukhsana. Be sure to keep the night light on because Anushkas performance in this film will surely give you nightmares.

The list is incomplete with the mention of a Friday, the 13th movie. The 2009 rendition of the original version is the one you can find on Netflix and binge. In this one, a group of collegians decide to spend the weekend at Crystal Lake, which proves fatal for them. They come across the deadly and vengeful Jason Voorhees who is waiting to kill them.
