The 15 Best Horror Movies, Ranked From Least To Most Realistic – TheThings

A damsel in distress running up the stairs, a haunted spirit that won't leave a house, amonster wreaking havoc on a town or city. These are all things that we're used to seeing in horror films, and movies in this genre can either be really amazing or really poorly done.

Every time we watch a horror movie, whether it's a classic that we've loved since forever or it's a new release, we can't help but ask one question: would this really happen in real life? It's definitely interesting to think about how realistic and logical a horror movie is.

Here are some of the greatest horror movies that have been made, and we put them on this list according to how likely they are to actually happen.

WhileThe Ringis a super popular movie, it's got to be the most unrealistic one out there. Could a video tape actually kill you after you watch it?

Definitely not... and we're glad to hear that because that would be pretty freaky. It's scary enough watching this 2002 film.

The 2019 filmScary Stories to Tell in the Darkis a well-craftedadaptationof a children's book seriesby illustrator Stephen Gammell and writer Alvin Schwartz.

But while it's beautiful to watch and a cool concept, it's super unrealistic. Stories can't actually become true. (Phew. Again, we're feeling very grateful for that.)

Some people believe in spirits and others say no way. But no matter where we stand on that debate, we know thatThe Otherscan't happen in real life.

Nicole Kidman realizes that she and her children are actually ghosts, and that's just not something that is going to happen.

Let Me Inwas released in 2010 and is a remake of the 2008 Swedish horror movie Let The Right One In.

Even though neighbors can definitely be strange and we've probably all experienced that, we know that no one living on our street or in our apartment building is going to be a vampire.

Jordan Peele's horror movie,Us, was much anticipated after the success ofGet Out. In this movie, everyone has an evil doppelganger, which couldn't happen.

Thinking about an underground world that mirrors the one up above with people who look just like us? Yeah, that gave us nightmares. And speaking of nightmares...

A Nightmare On Elm Streetis a very scary movie, but it's not realistic, thankfully.

People die intheir dreams because of an evil figurenamed Freddy Krueger, and that's not going to be possible in real life. If we re-watch this classic horror flick, we have to remind ourselves that it's not real.

Rosemary's Babyis one of the most classic horror films out there and in it, devil worship goes super far. Mia Farrow's character, Rosemary, realizes that a sinister plot to take over her baby has taken place and that there are Satan worshippers in her very own apartment building. Nope, this couldn't happen, either.

The 1960 horror filmPsychois super famous and tells the story of Norman Bates and his mother, Norma.

Some families do have weird relationships like this mother/son bond, so of all the horror movies out there, this one is a bit more realistic. It's easy to imagine something along these lines happening.

Stephen King's horror storyThe Shiningis fascinating, and even though it's fictional, many people share stories of creepy or haunted hotels. A lot of people have said that theyactually had spirit encounters. It seems like this film is pretty realistic when we think about it in that way.

While we would hope that the horror movieMiserynever comes true, it does seem like it's more realistic than some other scary films.

It's a tale of when celebrity obsession turns dark, and it's easy to imagine this happening in real life. We would definitely hope that it wouldn't, though.

Get Out,written and directed by Jordan Peele,is another fairly realistic horror movie. While it's anexaggeratedlook at racism, we can'tsay that the social issues in this movie aren't real. This movie took the popular culture world by storm and made us really think about the entertainment that we were consuming.

The Conjuringand its pre-sequel series,Annabelle, features many movies that are totally scary.

If we believe in ghosts, then the story of a couple who look into haunted houses feels totally legit to us. It's even more terrifying when we realize that this couple is based on people who actually existed and really did work in this supernatural field.

Halloweenis another realistic horror movie. The 1978 film, whichMental Floss says only took 20 days to film, featured a child named Michael Myers who was clearly evil and who needed some help.

We don't want to think about kids like this, but it's definitely possible for something like this to actually take place.

How many of us love the '90s horror movieI Know What You Did Last Summer?

Since revenge is often a motivator for crime, this movie seems very realistic since it tells the story of a fisherman named Ben Willis whoisn't actually dead, unlike what a group of teenage friends think.
