Why Are Marvel Fans Freaking Out Over Sam Raimi Directing ‘Doctor Strange in the Multiverss of Madness’? – Showbiz Cheat Sheet

Sam Raimi is officially the new director of Marvels Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness. It has been a month since Marvel parted ways with director Scott Derrickson over creative differences. Given how Raimi has experience in making superhero flicks and horror movies, its no wonder why fans are freaking out about him directing Benedict Cumberbatchs next stand-alone film in the Marvel Cinematic Universe.

Marvel has officially confirmed that Raimi will be directingDoctor Strange 2, which is due out intheaters in May of 2021. The studio has not revealed a lot of details about theplot of the film, but it is expected to be Marvels first foray into the horrorgenre.

With Derrickson leaving the project, Raimi is probably thebest fit for the movie. Not only has Raimis The Evil Dead gained cult-like status among fans, but he alsodirected the Spider-Man trilogy inthe early 2000s starring Tobey Maguire.

Although Raimi may be the perfect fit, there are someconcerns about the film. For starters, Raimi is coming in late in thedevelopment of the movie, which might limit his imprint on the project. We haveno doubt that Raimi will improve things, but most of the big scenes haveprobably already been worked out.

Secondly, WeGot This Covered reports that Derrickson left because Marvel wanted toomuch control over the movies tone. It is possible that Raimi toes the linewith the studio in order to get another project down the road, but well haveto wait and see what happens on that front.

Reservations aside, fans have been freaking out over Raimihelming Doctor Strange 2. Taking tosocial media, the decision to hire Raimi has been overwhelmingly approved byMarvel fans, who cannot wait to see what he can bring to the table.

If the news is true then Doctor Strange 2 is now back to being my most anticipated MCU film, one fan wrote.

Apart from bringing his style to the film, fans are veryexcited about which actors Raimi will bring with him. There has been a lot oftalk about Bruce Campbell and Ted Raimi making an appearance, though nothingofficial has been confirmed.

There have also been rumors about appearances from other superheroes in the MCU, including the likes of Captain Marvel (Brie Larson), Scarlet Witch (Elizabeth Olsen), and Spider-Man (Tom Holland).

While we wait for the official word, there is another actor fans would love to see reunite with Raimi on the big screens.

There are still a lot of questions surrounding Doctor Strange 2, especially with Raimi now at the helm. But inside sources claim that Raimi is very interested in casting Maguire for a part.

Raimi has a long history of recycling actors, so bringingMaguire back wouldnt be totally out of the question. And with the filmexploring elements of the multiverse, it is possible that Maguire reprises hisversion of Spider-Man, albeit in an alternate universe.

That said, Maguire was also rumored to be appearing in Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse, butthat did not happen. Producers were apparently worried that bringing Maguire onboard would confuse fans and decided to go in a different direction.

Maguire has not commented on the rumors surrounding hisappearance in Doctor Strange 2.

While it is exciting to see Raimi take over, Doctor Strange 2 lost another important actor. Following Derricksons surprise exit, Rachel McAdams has officially left the sequel as well.

In Doctor Strange,McAdams played the part of Dr. Christine Palmer, who was a love interest forStrange and supported him throughout his recovery. We do not know how McAdamsexit will impact the script, but it is definitely sad to see her go.

Palmer has not opened up about her departure, though sourcessay that she did not want to be a part of the movie without Derrickson.Hopefully, the actress will return to the franchise at some point down theroad, especially with Strange playing such an important part in the MCU.

Doctor Strange in theMultiverse of Madness is scheduled to open in theaters on May 5, 2021.
