10 vacation getaways to join Mount Hood’s New Year’s Eve parties – OregonLive

Are you searching for a memorable way to watch the dawn of a new decade? How about ringing in 2020 from Oregons tallest mountain?

All three of Mount Hood's major ski resorts -- Mt. Hood Meadows, Mt. Hood Skibowl and Timberline Lodge -- host New Year's Eve parties, each with night skiing, entertainment, food and fireworks, reports Oregonian/OregonLive travel writer Jamie Hale.

In this week's vacation roundup, we look at 10 different ways to stay near the slopes, from a luxury chalet to a ski-in cabin.

Timberline Lodge and Ski Area

Timberline Lodge

It's too late to reserve a hotel room at Timberline Lodge or a condo at the Lodge at Government Camp for New Year's Eve, but it's not too early to book for next year.

The iconic lodge was built of Oregon trees and native stone by WPA workers during the Depression. Architect Gilbert Stanley Underwood, who also designed Yosemite's Ahwahnee Hotel and other lodges in the U.S. national park system, called for a Rustic Cascadian Neovernacular style. The structure is a National Historic Landmark.

Rate range from around $150 a night for a room with single beds to $380 a night for a king-size bed with a fireplace.
