7 great streaming services for watching scary movies and horror shows – NJ.com

Its the best time of the year to dim the lights, make some popcorn and turn on a scary movie.

Luckily, there are more streaming services to choose from than ever before. And if you dont want to commit, most offer a free trial.

Heres a look at the various streaming TV services that have a library full of horror shows and scary movies, just in time for Halloween.

Shudder Theres no better place to start than here, because Shudder is a streaming service specifically tailored toward the horror category. Shudder features hundreds of terrifying, thrilling, genre-defining films. A free trial lasts seven days, and a membership costs $4.75 per month. View the library here.

Disney+ The family-friendly streaming service has just that: Family-friendly TV shows, movies and specials geared around Halloween. Plans cost $6.99 per month or $69.99 per year, but there is not a free trial that comes with it. View the library here.

Netflix We cant talk about streaming services without mentioning Netflix. There is, of course, a huge selection of horror shows and movies. However, Netflix recently removed its 30-day free trial option. Plans range from $8.99 to $15.99 a month. View the library here.

Vudu The best place for a quick, cheap horror fix, Vudu doesnt offer a subscription streaming service, but it does offer movie rental prices for as cheap as $2.99. Some films are free, some are still in theaters and theres a ton of content you wont find on any service listed above. View the library here.

Hulu Hulu features Huluween, a curated selection of horror shows, movies, short films, originals, and even an interactive experience called The Screamlands. The basic Hulu subscription costs $5.99 per month with commercials. There is a premium option without commercials for $11.99 per month, however, and a live TV option for $54.99 per month. Peacock NBCs premium subscription streaming service has a Halloween-themed section with TV shows, films and even Harry Potter movies. The base package is free, and the premium package costs $4.99 per month but includes a seven-day free trial. View the library here.

AMC FearFest OK, so this technically isnt a streaming service, but its worth including. Now entering its 24th year, AMCs annual FearFest marathon is a staple of cable TVs countless Halloween celebrations, all of which are available to watch on-demand with a cable subscription. If you dont have cable, you can still watch with Fubo or Philo, which are live TV streaming services. View the library here.
