999 (give or take) hauntingly happy things we know about Disney’s new "Haunted Mansion" film – DisneyDining

Disney Parks Haunted Mansion attraction is getting an all-new film adaptation, and weve got all the latest details about the new film set to debut in 2023.

Disneys new Haunted Mansion film is in production, and fans are thrilled about an all-new take on the 2003 film starring Eddie Murphy, which was inspired, of course, by Magic Kingdoms Guest-favorite Haunted Mansion attraction.

The 2003 version of the film was created on a budget of $90 million. It was released at the box office on November 26, 2003, and grossed more than $182 million worldwide. Critics were extremely harsh in their reviews of the film, citing underwhelming humor and a lack of imagination on the part of the filmmakers. But so far, the new adaptation of the Haunted Mansion film, which was filmed in New Orleans, looks promising.

Heres what we know about the new film so far.

Haunted Mansion is scheduled for a theatrical release on March 10, 2023. At this time, Disney has made no official announcements about the streaming release date for the film, so fans will have to wait to discover when the new film will be available to stream on the Disney+ platform. However, if the film follows Disneys current way of doing things, the streaming release will likely be only a few weeks after the theatrical release.

The cast of Disneys new Haunted Mansion movie is studded with stars. Rosario Dawson will play a single mother in the film named Gabbie. Owen Wilson will play the role of a priest, and Danny DeVito will portray a historian. Actress Tiffany Haddish will play a character named Harriet. Earlier this week, Disney announced that Jared Leto will portray the Hatbox Ghost in the film, and Jamie Lee Curtis will take on the role of the Haunted Mansions iconic medium, Madame Leota.

When Disney first announced the take-two of the Haunted Mansion film in 2010, veteran Guillermo del Toro was signed on to write the script for the film and produce the film. But when he submitted a script in 2013, Disney said it was too scary. After that, Katie Dippold was brought on board to write a new script. All current signs point to Disneys intention for the new film to be family-friendly like the 2003 version.

The majority of the details of the film are still largely under wraps, but the official plot centers around a single mother named Gabbie and her 9-year-old son. The duo moves into a haunted mansion in New Orleans, and, of course, they have no idea its haunted. But once they become aware of the terrifying things taking place inside the mansion, they seek the help of a priest, a historian, a psychic, and a paranormal investigator.
