Diana biopic Spencer is ‘like a horror film’ and not The Crown – Metro.co.uk

Biopic Spencer has been described as a horror movie

The new Diana biopic Spencer has been likened to a horror movie by its composer, Jonny Greenwood.

Kristen Stewart portrays the beloved late Princess of Wales in the Pablo Larran directed flick as she spends Christmas with the Royal family at the Sandringham estate in Norfolk in the early nineties.

Whilst theres eating, drinking and hunting aplenty, this is no ordinary holiday as Diana knows this year will be different, deciding to leave her marriage to Prince Charles since it grew cold after rumours of infidelity and divorce surfaced.

And former Radiohead singer Jonny has admitted that viewers will be stunned upon learning that the movie is more darker and stranger than anything they may have seen in the Emmy winning series, The Crown.

Speaking ahead of Spencers debut at the Venice Film Festival, he told the Press Association: There are lots of claustrophobic handheld camera action following her around, and you feel straight away that this is not as easy a viewing experience as something like The Crown.

Jonny, 49, also explained that his plans to use music that Diana personally adored hit a dead end as it didnt suit the films oppressive undertones.

[The music] just needed to describe that situation and describe the oppression she feels in [the] three days she is in this palace in Sandringham, he said.

Its a bit like a horror film in a way. There are all these sinister servants loitering under stairs, and there is this feeling of paranoia and oppression. The music was meant to enhance that, Johnny added.

Former Twilight star Kristen leads a star-studded cast in the film, which is being released on November 5, alongside Jack Farthing as Prince Charles, with Sally Hawkins and Timothy Spall also in the mix.

The first trailer for the movie was recently released, with Kristen immediately tipped for Oscars glory.

The teaser sees plates being served up at a very fancy holiday dinner in the Royal household, with tensions threatening to bubble over in every second.

We are then given glimpses of the late Princess of Wales at various moments during her turbulent relationship with Charles, as they pose for portraits together and head out under the gaze of waiting photographers.

It isnt until the final few seconds of the trailer that we hear Kirsten as Diana for the first time during what appears to be a very private conversation.

They know everything, she is cryptically told, to which she confidently replies: They dont.

Kristen recently spoke out over the upcoming biopic, explaining that she feels protective of Diana.

Its hard not to feel protective over her, she said during an appearance on Jimmy Kimmel Live!

She was so young, everyones perspective is different, and theres no way to get everything right. What is fact in relation to personal experience.

Spencer is set to be released on November 5.
