The classic 1980s animated series Dogtanian and the Three Muskehounds is coming to the big screen and we now have our first look at the characters.

Based on Alexandre Dumas's The Three Musketeers, the series used anthropomorphised dogs to tell the stories of the titular guardsman Athos, Porthos and Aramis.

Dogtanian has travelled to Paris in order to become one of the musketeers himself, where he saves maid-in-waiting Juliette and battles the villainous Cardinal Richelieu.

The new project was unveiled earlier this year as a co-production between India-based studio Cosmos-Maya and Spains Apolo Films.

Now, artwork for all of the central characters including the heroes and the villains has been revealed by the movies official Facebook page and shared by Film Stories.

Experienced TV animation director Toni Garcia is helming the movie, with Doug Landale penning the script.

Langdale previously co-wrote The Book of Life and has been behind the scripts for several Scooby-Doo direct-to-video movies.

Dogtanian and the Three Muskehounds still airs in more than 100 countries worldwide and has maintained a consistent following through its presence on streaming platforms.

A TV movie showed up in the 1990s, but many will be excited for the nostalgia of seeing a new take on the beloved character.

Universal has the rights to distribute the new Dogtanian and the Three Muskehounds film in the UK and a 2021 release date is currently on the agenda.
