New Orleans Saints' Quarterback Depth Chart Scary Without Brees: Fan's Opinion

New Orleans Saints

The 2012 New Orleans Saints are built to win Super Bowl 47. Despite the suspensions, the Saints' roster measures up favorably against any NFL team. New Orleans was aggressive in free agency, beefing up the defense, re-signing Marques Colston and replacing Carl Nicks with Ben Grubbs.

Of course, New Orleans hasn't been quite as aggressive in free agency as I'd like. In fact, they have yet to sign the best quarterback in the NFL. The fact that Drew Brees is still unsigned coupled with the New Orleans Saints' current depth chart at quarterback is scarier than a Dr. Morgus movie marathon.

However, because the Saints are built to win and the quarterback depth chart is so deplorable, this tells me that New Orleans is not concerned about starting the season without Drew Brees. Yes, Tom Benson should have paid the man a long time ago. But rest assured the New Orleans Saints will not enter 2012 with one of these quarterbacks as the starter.

Sean Canfield

The fact that the Saints have signed quarterback Luke McCown probably means that Sean Canfield will not be standing on the sidelines in New Orleans this year. Since joining the Saints, Canfield has barely even seen action in the preseason. If Canfield ever played quarterback in a meaningful game it could look like the infamous Indianapolis Colts vs. New York Jets game when the Colts were undefeated and Curtis Painter replaced Peyton Manning.

Luke McCown

Despite being 30 years old, Luke McCown has hardly distinguished himself as an NFL quarterback. His career record as a starting quarterback with the Cleveland Browns, Tampa Bay Buccaneers and Jacksonville Jaguars is 2-7. (Unfortunately, one of his two wins came against Jason David's Saints in 2007.) If New Orleans heralds the beginning of Armageddon and doesn't sign Drew Brees, look for McCown to be Chase Daniel's backup.

Chase Daniel

Among the roughly 500 reasons why New Orleans needs to re-sign Drew Brees is that he has been remarkably durable as the Saints quarterback. Somehow, Chase Daniel finished OTAs with his throwing hand in a cast. Daniel had an outstanding collegiate career for the Missouri Tigers and probably has the most talent of any quarterback currently on the Saints roster. However, I won't even waste your time trying to compare him to Drew Brees.
