A great scene stays in your mind after you leave the theater, and it never really goes away. Ten years later, 20 years later, you rewind the tape, or put up on a disc, or slap the reel onto the projector, and there it is again, that one great scene, with everyone still sitting or standing in the same configurations, and Joe Pesci is still saying, Funny how? Im a clown? I amuse you? (Goodfellas) or Bruce Davison is still telling his AIDS-stricken lover to Let go (Longtime Companion).

This century has already had many great scenes, all of which can be found on disc, and most of which can be found streaming online. Describing them would take too long. Ill just allude to them, and youll either recall them yourself or, I hope, seek them out and the movies they came from. These are my own favorites of the past 20 years. Feel free to send me yours.
