With Neve Campbell confirming shes in talks about bringing back her iconic Sidney for a Scream 5, it got us wondering about all the brilliantly gory deaths in the legendary franchise.

For many readers, Ghostface is a character that will haunt their dreams and for some, may be the first movie serial killer they were introduced to with 1996s Scream.

Now decades later, so much blood has been shed by the masked murderer who loved to terrorise teens with his taunting call of Whats your favourite scary movie?

Pointer youve never watched a scary movie in your life. Deflect, deflect.

From Jada Pinkett Smith meeting her maker in a packed theatre filled with lookalike Ghostface cosplayers while her boyfriend was being stabbed in the toilets to Rose McGowan brilliantly mastering the clichd trope of girl who gets killed in horror film in the most meta way, theres a lot of ground to cover.

Anyway, lets take a walk down memory lane, counting down our top 10 Scream deaths.

Jenny McCarthys Sarah bit the bullet in quite a ridiculous way that was just perfect for a horror film of this ilk.

Were talking being lured to a studio to run lines, then taking shelter once she realised its all a ruse in a costume department.

Thats filled with Ghostface outfits.

Of course old mate murderer is hiding among the studio and stabs poor Sarah.

What makes this take a rather devious turn is that Roman, who Sarah thought she was going to be meeting, but was seemingly lured by someone else ended up being the murderer all along. Kinda sucks for Sarah, doesnt matter how you slice it, so to speak.

Any guy who tried to date Sidney never stood a chance and in Scream 2 poor Derek learnt that the hard way.

Unfortunately, Sidney thought all her BFs were the killer honestly, we think theyre always the killer but old mate Derek had been captured by the actual killer and thenkilled.

Being tied up and done in (after Sidney thought he was an accomplice) with a direct shot to the heart has got to hurt.

And Derek wasnt even a bad guy, proving nice guys finish last. Or dead.

What really sucks for poor Jennifer Jolie is that she was on the wrong side of a one-way mirror, with potential saviours on the other side.

Shed only just seen two of her other mates stabbed as well, so thats cute.

Of course they cant see her being violently killed on the other side and its not until they start shooting the mirrors does she fall through.

And of course Ghostface is already gone.

Billy really was a d-bag, so it was only right he went out in a blaze of glory.

By being stabbed by an umbrella and shot, of course. By Sidney.

Seeing he was the main killer in the first movie, he had it coming.

Anyway, he faked dying in front of girlfriend Sidney to put aside any suspicion but then his true colours came out and our girl Sidney stabbed him with an umbrella and then he got shot a couple times.

He was a tough little so and so. Kinda like the movie Rasputin.

Stu, being one of the other serial killers of the film, also needed a rather brilliant ending to give the audience SOMETHING to root for.

Like, who thinks they can say: Watch a few movies, take a few notes. It was fun, and get away unscathed?

Beautifully executed (pun intended), Sidney electrocutes him by throwing a TV on his face.

You cant be so obsessed with scary movies and think a giant TV set wont fall on your face now can you?

Sure this happened in a movie-within-a-movie, but Anna Paquins character being killed by Kristen Bells really had to land on the list, right?

The meta inclusion of Stab in a film about stabbing was simply delectable and with a whole bunch of stars making cameo appearances we thought wed mix things up.

Plus, sure you can all relate to the whole now shut the f*ck up and watch the movie dialogue.

Cici got the double death when she was stabbed in the back and then thrown off a roof.

Yeah, she stood no chance.

But, honestly, homegirl should know you dont run to the top floor where the only way down is off the balcony.

Of course she should have known she was about to die when she was made the designated dorm dweller they never make it out alive in a slasher.

Poor Maureen this one hurts, still.

It was just so unfortunate poor Maureen was pointing out how silly women in slasher films are, as well as the tropes around black people in horror films, before shes maniacally stabbed in the tum in a scene that has been parodied way too many times now.

As she stumbles onto the stage and screams and dies right in front of a bunch of lookalike killers, its never made us so afraid to go to the cinema.

Guys, it was NOT a stunt.

Also sucks her boyfriend is being stabbed in the ear in the toilets at the same time.

There are so many layers to this that makes it (nearly) the best death in the Scream franchise.

From not only looking like movie serial killer bait blonde, big boobs, sassy to speaking like one No please dont kill me Mr Ghostface, I wanna be in the sequel! there was no way she was surviving this one.

Unfortunately, she met a rather grisly end, being locked in a garage and while trying to escape out a doggy door, being hoisted up into the roof and electrocuted and strangled by the door.

She survived being cut though, right?

There was no way Drew, sorry, we mean Caseys death was ever not going to be number one, right?

Who even kills off Drew Barrymore in the opening sequence this is madness. Brilliant madness.

You can never quite forget the vision of Casey being so horrifically killed and having her bloody body hoisted before wed even seen the opening credits.

We all thought perhaps Casey played by Drew who was making quite the comeback would be our Sidney. Until she wasnt.

Its where the tone of the film is set, with the iconic Whats your favorite scary movie? drawl down the line before she was disembowelled.

Ah Scream, eh?
