5 Things About Rick Grimes’ The Walking Dead Movies We’re Excited About (& 5 That We’re Nervous About) – CBR – Comic Book Resources

It seems forever ago when we saw Rick Grimes be taken away by that mysterious helicopter on The Walking Dead, and the wait for answers has gone on ever since as the film series starring the character still lies in the future.

What we do know, though, is that we will be getting these movies at some point or another, so theres at least the guarantee that Rick Grimes will return to lead the series once again. Not everyones jumping on the hype train, however, as theres still some things were nervous that the films wont do right. That said, here are five things were excited for, and five for which we need some convincing.

The subject turning into a story that is shown at a slower pace is a serious no-no, as weve found out since the Season 7 premiere. That season and the following one were what effectively killed off more than 70% of the shows viewership, and if Ricks first movie meanders along similarly then itll be bad news for the next two.

On the face of it, were not too optimistic for the chances of a faster movie series, since all we know at present is that Rick will be centerstage, which implies we might be in for a character piece.

The big question on the minds of every The Walking Dead fan for over a year has been over what happened to Rick. After his exit episode had aired, the belief had been that wed get the first film by 2019, yet were still waiting.

By now, were just glad to know what became of Rick and where he ended up. Theories have been out over the manner of his return, with the main thing fans wanting to know being why he never returned in almost a decade for his friends and family.

The Walking Deads track record with couples has been more failure than success, and the response has been mixed. One implied attraction from Jadis toward Rick, with the former making it very clear she wanted to be involved with him.

Since Rick probably wont have any other ally with him, its most likely hell be getting chummy with Jadis. However, having the two become romantic would be the worst thing that might happen and were not looking forward to any chances of this happening, considering Jadis sketchy past and overall unlikeable character.

The show has relied on bringing in a new supporting cast every couple of seasons, with the side effect of this practice being the deaths of the older characters. With the movie series, we wont have to suffer parting from our favored cast members and can dive into a totally fresh setting.

Its always exciting when theres new blood involved, and the possibilities are endless over what type of characters we might get and prefer. This can be seen as a way to refresh Ricks surroundings, so theres a lot to be excited for in this regard.

Viewers of the series have been accustomed to watching an arc play out over a years worth of build-up, but this is a luxury that wont be afforded to them with the film series since the maximum a single one would play is a couple of hours.

That would require some serious cramming in to do, especially for the first part as that would be the introduction for the series. With seemingly so much story to tell, theres a chance this might not be enough for a satisfactory runtime.

Theres no way Rick has been taken somewhere nearby, and wherever he is should be a place that has something distinct about it to have so many resources. Having a backdrop of this sort will also entail exploration to the outside world.

This way, we can see whats been going on on the other side of the country, and perhaps even abroad to a different country. The people in these places will no doubt have had separate experiences, so this larger world is surely something to be excited about.

If youve been keeping up with the storylines on The Walking Dead youll have no doubt noticed that the series sticks to one or two styles and to its format. Its either the protagonists being nomadic and coming across a new community or new people arriving in the heroes own territory.

If the same formula is applied to Ricks film series then theres more to be apprehensive about than getting excited, as the movies will then inevitably become a feature-length version of more of the same from the TV series.

For the longest time now weve had the zombies play second fiddle to, well, everything there is on the series. This has reached to the point where youll be forgiven for having completely forgotten about the walkers by now.

As the movies will be a revamp of what weve seen so far, we could have new zombies to behold, and more importantly, have their threat actually mean something. Ricks always been a badass against the walkers, so the prospect of him taking down upgraded ones - perhaps against armored zombies - is one that is sure to delight fans.

Ever since the Saviors storyline bored us more than anything, theres not much optimism to go with potential villains being part of a faction. Seeing as Rick has been taken by the CRM community, chances are that CRM itself will be the antagonist faction.

If thats the case, then were not looking forward much to the dynamic between Rick and the villains as this would be too similar to the Saviors arc. It would take a swerve of epic proportions to make the antagonists interesting if they are an evil group; while that would be a great surprise, wed rather the movies just avoid painting large groups as villains in the first place.

No matter what happens, well still be getting a decisive conclusion to the character everyone loves, and that in itself is cause for excitement. Rick has proven each time that hes a draw for fans to tune in, and witnessing his journeys end is something viewers have waited a decade for by now.

Weve seen him be helpless in the world taken by the zombies, become a leader who fights foes both living and dead, and be ripped away from his family. All this has got to mean something in the end, and it is the conclusion to this superb character that has us waiting for the film series.
