Andrew Lincoln Jokes Leaving Walking Dead Was A Terrible Decision – Screen Rant

During a cast reunion, Rick Grimes actor Andrew Lincoln jokes that he never should have left The Walking Dead to spend more time with his kids.

During a cast reunion, Rick Grimes actor Andrew Lincoln jokes that it was a terrible decision to leave The Walking Dead. Debuting on AMC in 2010, the zombie drama adapted from Robert Kirkman and Tony Moores comic book series quickly established itself as a pop culture phenomenon and later went on to be a ratings giant.

Though ratings for TWD may have slackened off in recent years, the zombie universe remains a dominant force on the pop culture landscape, with two spinoff series already on AMC and more spinoffs in the offing (including an unlikely comedic take on the zombie apocalypse). Of course, TWD has ambitions for even bigger things as Lincoln himself is slated to headline a movie centered on Grimes, who left the main show in season 9 after being the lead character since day one. Indeed, everything in the TWD universe seems to be building toward the planned Rick Grimes movie, with recent spinoff show The Walking Dead: World Beyond working to directly set up the film and itslikely main antagonists the CRM, the deadly military group that kidnapped a near-death Grimes and took him to some mystery location.

With The Walking Dead getting set to stake out new territory on the big screen (eventually), Lincoln recently got back together with his former TWD castmates for a fund-raising virtual reunion, and made a joking revelation about how he actually regrets leaving the show. While speaking about how much he enjoyed living and working in the state of Georgia during production on the series, Lincoln quipped (via Digital Spy):

"Arthur my 10-year-old son won't let me take a job unless it's in Georgia now! He dismisses it. He goes, 'Take me back there!' I came back home for the kids, and now they're sick of me, and I wish I'd never left. It's bulls--t! It was a terrible decision!"

Despite his quip about his kids being sick of him and his wishing he'd never left The Walking Dead, Lincoln must actually be very happy with a less busy acting life, as he's lined up very few projects since exiting the series that made him famous. The actor's upcoming slate does include a change-of-pace film in Penguin Bloom, a family-orienteddrama co-starringhim with Naomi Watts. Beyond that, the as-yet-untitled Rick Grimes movie is the only thingLincoln appears to have cooking.

Indeed it seems Lincoln is in no hurry to move beyond his most famous role, as he's more than happy to still wax nostalgic about his experiences on The Walking Dead. It remains to be seen what new adventures are in store for Rick Grimes when his movie comes out, but all indications are that a major war between the CRM and Commonwealth will be central to the story. As for the flagship The Walking Dead, it's arguable that the show just hasn't been the same without Rick, despite its efforts to keep things going with Daryl and Carol, and to a lesser extent Negan, as the show's focus. So though Lincoln may nottruly regret leaving the show, many fans may wish he had elected not to focus on his real family, but stuck with his TV family instead.
