Biggest Questions After The Walking Dead Season 10 Finale – Screen Rant

The Walking Dead season 10 finally wrapped up after an enforced break, but the closing episode left plenty of important questions unanswered.

Here are all the major questions coming out ofThe Walking Dead season 10.Thanks to Alpha's bloody display of decapitated heads, war was inevitable between the skin-wearing Whisperers andThe Walking Dead's protagonists, and season 10 has seen that conflict play out in full. Hilltop was all but destroyed by a fiery assault of missiles, Carol conspired with Negan to assassinate Alpha from the inside, and Michonne bailed afterstumbling acrossevidence of Rick Grimes' survival. The penultimate installment ofThe Walking Dead season 10 aired in early April, and set up a final clashpitting Beta's Whisperers, almighty horde in tow, against the combined might of Alexandria, Hilltop, the Kingdom and Oceanside.

And then the world went a little bit wrong, andThe Walking Dead, along with every other movie and TV production, was paused. Where October usually bringsthestart of a fresh season,The Walking Dead's long-awaited season 10 finale only released earlier this month. Six additional installments will now air in 2021 beforeThe Walking Dead season 11 brings the main series to a close in 2022, heralding an onslaught of spin-offs, anthologies and movies.

Completed during the lockdown period,The Walking Dead's season 10 finale was understandably rough around the edges compared to dramatic finales of the past, and this means even more questions were left answered than usual. From threatening new groups to unresolved tensions, what needs to be addressed whenThe Walking Dead returns?

The biggestmysteryfromThe Walking Dead season 10 concerns the armed unit of soldiers that rush Eugene's group at the end of the episode. Eugene, Ezekiel and Yumiko ventured into the unknown to rendezvous with Stephanie, who made contact via radio from another nearby community. Arriving late to the party, Eugene doesn't necessarily expect Stephanie and her peopleto be still waiting, but neither does he anticipate being mobbed by soldiers in shining white armor. The Walking Dead doesn't reveal the identity of this group, but the answer is widely known thanks to the original comic books. This is the Commonwealth, and their live-action introduction is a faithful recreation of their debut comic scene. The Commonwealth is a huge community working towards restoring civilization, and their resources far eclipse Alexandria's comparatively small-time operation. While the Commonwealth willtechnically become antagonists inThe Walking Dead's final season, the line between good and evil is more obscure than ever, and the community present a very different kind of threat.

As Princess duly points out, Eugene has love on the mind as he anticipates meeting Stephanie, but after the Commonwealth's soldiers emerge from the shadows, the safety of his group takes precedence. WhenThe Walking Dead season 11 begins and any issues with the Commonwealth are ironed out, Eugene's mind will once again turn towards the mysterious, faceless Stephanie. Why was she so nice on the radio, only to send an attack force to the meeting itself? Was Eugene's instinct about Stephanie wrong, or is there a plausible explanation? If AMC'sThe Walking Dead continues to follow the comic books, Stephaniewill have a legitimate reason for not being present at the train yard meeting, but the TV serieswill likely adapt their actual relationship a little differently.

More so than the comic books,The Walking Dead fans are desperate for Eugene to get a happy ending. After pining for Rosita over many years, Eugene's romantic advances have not beenreciprocated, and the promise of "Stephanie" finally allowed Eugene to move on.The Walking Dead viewers are eagerly rooting for Eugene to find someone who shares his feelings after so long in the friendzone. What wassupposed to be a first date, however, has now turned into a perilous situation, and it'll be fascinating to see whether the flame of passion between Eugene and Stephanie can be reignited after this rocky start, finally giving the wordy would-be Casanova the ending he deserves.

Ever since Lauren Cohan departedThe Walking Dead in season 9, her whereabouts has beendeliberatelyvague. Maggie has been living in an unseen communitywith Georgie, who was introduced inThe Walking Dead season 8 after offeringvital aid to Hilltop and its allies. Georgie maintained a line of communication and eventually took Maggie as a permanent resident, but next to nothing has been revealed about this group, and Cohan's return inThe Walking Dead's season 10 finale fails to shed any further light on the matter. Georgie's community shares numerous parallels with the Commonwealth, and it may not be a coincidence that Maggie's reappearance and the Commonwealth's official debut occurin the same episode. With that said, cast and crew have denied Georgie is the live-action version of the Commonwealth's leader Pamela, which means Maggie could've been staying at an entirely new community. Georgie might even be involved with the Alliance of the Three, a trio of powerful allied communities introduced in Walking Dead: World Beyond. Unfortunately,The Walking Dead's season 10 finale didn't afford Maggie the opportunity to explain her whereabouts.

Another mystery Maggie never gets around to explaining is the introduction of a strong, dual-blade wielding masked warrior. First glimpsed inThe Walking Dead's season 10 finale trailer, the masked man arrives in time to save Aaron and Alden from a gang of Whisperer goons, but barely features in the episode beyond that. The rescue scene is massively curtailed, skipping right to the end, and the masked warrior later appears alongside Maggie to help Gabriel out of a tight spot. Maggie's "he's with me" line confirms the mystery man's allegiance to Georgie and his gender, but little else. This scarcity of detail could be down to the enforced pandemic restrictions, since the liberation of Aaron and Alden is especially short - no more than what was already shown in the trailer.

"A Certain Doom" leaves much unsaid about this character. Is he from the comic books? Why is he donning a mask? Why does Maggie trust him? Assuming Georgie didn't develop someserious martial arts skills during the time skip, it's possible the masked warrior is an entirely new character inThe Walking Dead's canon, rather than someone lifted from the source material. But fans are still theorizing that the formidable newcomer could be Mercer, the Commonwealth's military chief from theWalking Dead comic series. While this would rely on Georgie's community being the Commonwealth, the character's weapons are strikingly similar to Mercer's. Maggie might also have gone rogue to save her old friends, which would explain why the head of the Commonwealth's military would need to wear a mask during the mission.

Another lingeringquestion fans expected Maggie to answer concerns her acrimonious departure from Hilltop. Following the lengthy time skip in The Walking Dead season 9, Maggie is revealed to have left Hilltop after a feud with Michonne. A flashback episode details how Michonne closed Alexandria off from her allies, causing frictionwith Maggie, butThe Walking Dead strongly suggests there was more to her departure. While Maggie's frustration with Michonne is understandable, it doesn'texplainherbailing on Hilltop altogether, leaving the community with a string of awkward stand-in leaders. It's implied that the Maggie and Michonne feud went beyond a mere difference in leadership styles, but like the question marks over Georgie's community, the truth won't be revealed until Lauren Cohan's character is given more chance for exposition in The Walking Dead season 11.

The Walking Dead season 10's finale episode somehow avoided a tense reunion between Maggie and Negan. While still the leader of the Saviors, Negan murdered Maggie's husband, Steven Yeun's Glenn Rhee, in brutal fashion, and she was distraught when Rick decided to imprison the villain instead of executing him, sowing the seeds for the later disputewith Michonne. Maggie was angry at theprospect of Negan being kept alive, so her reaction tohim walking around as a free man will be something to behold. Since Maggie skipped town, Negan has proven himself a reformed citizen, returning to his cell willingly after a jailbreak, killing Alpha, and rescuing Judith. His journey towards redemption continued inThe Walking Dead's season 10 finale, offering fatherly advice to Lydia and helping finish off Beta. Even Daryl has started to come around to good-guy Negan.

Maggie is unlikely to feel the same. Frustratingly,The Walking Dead season 10 skipped out on Maggie's reaction to seeing Negan walking free among the people of Alexandria and Hilltop. After the battle against the Whisperers was over, Maggie and Negan were both milling around in the aftermath, but there was no interaction between them. Expect fireworks inThe Walking Dead season 11.

The Walking Dead's season 10 finale dropped another big character return - a brief appearance from Connie. Played by Lauren Ridloff, Connie was last seen at the beginning of season 10, trapped with a host of other characters in a zombie-infested cave. While the others made their way out unscathed, Carol's recklessness left Connie trapped under rubble. In real life, Ridloff was off filming the MCU'sEternals, in which she'll play Makkari, but the fate of Connie was left up in the air as the survivors had more pressing problems to cope with. Ridloff returns at the very end of "A Certain Doom," looking lost, injured and disheveled. The Walking Dead doesn't address how Connie survived, or what happened to her after escaping the caves, leaving season 11 to pick up the slack. In her brief return, Connie appears traumatized, perhaps hinting towards the extreme lengths she went through to survive.

Connie is eventually picked up by a horse-mounted Virgil. Introduced earlier inThe Walking Dead season 10, Virgil was an unstable researcher captured by Oceanside, who promised Michonne a weapon to use against the Whisperers, before trapping and drugging her in Danai Gurira's final episode. Teaming up with Virgil's other prisoners, Michonne breaks free and overpowers her captor, but stops short of killing him. After a heart-to-heart, Michonne shows the better part of valor and leaves Virgil to put his life back together. Virgil appears again in "A Certain Doom," arriving at Oceanside to find it evacuated, but what does he want now? If, as Michonne predicted, Virgil has changed his ways, Connie might presenta path towardsredemption. By helping a weakened Connie find her way back home, Virgil can earn the trust of Alexandria andjoin their ranks. But if Virgil hasn't yet dropped his villainous tendencies, Connie might become his next victim, setting up a dramatic rescuecourtesy of Daryl Dixon.Answers await inThe Walking Dead season 10.
